New Years Celebration

Hubby and I rang in the New Year at a Turkish restaurant. The food was done banquet style. There were fried liver cubes, cheese cigars, different kebabs with rice, shrimp, fried calamari, a variety of fried fish with mixed greens salad, a few other salads, and a platter of dips (hummus, baba ganoush, eggplant, etc.). There was also a plate of fruit and a plate with dessert (not sure what it was), along with tea and coffee. Food was delicious and it only cost $95/person. They did not serve alcohol but we were allowed to bring our own free of charge. There was a Russian-speaking duo (man and woman) who sang. It was mostly Russian music. The guy also played on the guitar. At one point he took a shot glass and used that to play the guitar. Very cool. There was empty space next to the stage so we were able to dance. A TV near us showed Times Square and we were able to see the ball drop. We’ve never done this before. It was a very good evening. We came to the restaurant around 9pm and left after 2am.

Sounds like you had a very wonderful evening. Did the entertainers sing in Russian or English?

As I mentioned in the discussion they sang Russian music so it was in Russian.

A bit weird that it was Russian music in a Turkish restaurant but I think majority of the people there were from Russian-speaking countries.

@lovebuglena How many Russian speaking countries are there? Are they basically the old Soviet Union countries?

I am sure that you had a wonderful celebration. There was a Turkish restaurant in Monte Carlo where we loved to go. Happy New Year.

@lovebuglena That is a shame, I know that many are sick right now, after the large family gatherings.

Happy New Year! It was a good time at the restaurant. Sucks that some people that should’ve been there weren’t because they got Covid or just got sick.

It definitely beat spending it at home or at someone’s house.

I’m wondering the same thing. Maybe because lots of customers are Russian-speaking (from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, etc.). There was some Turkish music at one point but it wasn’t live.

Yes. Definitely. And it wasn’t expensive either, which was great.

It was pretty good, though some people weren’t there because they were sick.
