My latest recycling project

When I think about it I do seem to write quite often about my repair and recycling projects. I guess that’s just a reflection of my life!
My latest project was to make something out of my favourite trousers. I bought them back in the 1990s and wore them a lot. They were jeans-style trousers but they were made from patches of cotton in all sorts of patterns, the label said ‘100% scraps’!
They had a button fastening at the fly instead of a zip, and after many years the button holes were too worn to hold the buttons any more. I replaced the buttons with a strip of wide elastic and that kept them going for a while longer, but eventually some of the fabric patches themselves developed holes in the actual fabric. I could have patched the patches and of course it would have looked perfectly OK, but all the different thicknesses and different layers would have made them difficult to wash and dry. So in the end I decided they had reached the end.
But still I didn’t want to throw them out. I tried to think of how I could make them into something else, but there wasn’t really enough intact fabric to make any other garment. So in the end I combined them with another pair of worn-out trousers and made this beanbag. The ‘beans’ came from a worn-out fake leather beanbag that someone was giving away on Freegle.
What do you think?

I think the beanbag looks stylish and authentic. That's a nice story about your old trouser. You could start a DIY YouTube videos since you are talented in recycling.

That is so awesome that the trousers to begin with were recycled scraps and then you were able to keep them in use so long and turn them into something else again. I love it thanks for sharing! What will this bean bag be for? Tossing like a game or sitting on? I can’t gauge how big it is in the photo.

It is really one of a kind isn't it? How did you even think of that creative idea?

It is one of a kind that's true. I never even saw anyone else wearing trousers like these so I don't expect there can be any beanbags around like it!
I don't know what made me think of it really. The girls both have beanbags which we all like to sit on so it just seemed like a good idea.

That's certainly a great way to recycle your pants into a bean bag. I Never would have thought of that!

You are truly resourceful! Good job finding a way to recycle those trousers. Now instead of wearing them, you’ll be sitting on them!

Yes, patching patches can get a bit ridiculous after a while.
