Thanks to the actions of the owners of a male dog named Rupert who fell into the Weymouth Fore River in Braintree Massachusetts who contacted the Braintree Fire Department to report that their dog had fallen into an icy river and he needed to be rescued. The Braintree Firefighters put wetsuits and were able to rescue Rupert who was hanging to the ice with his front paws but he was not able to get out of the icy river. The firefighters used a floatation device to get Rupert out of the river and return him to his owners the same day safely. Link is upi.com/5151706219264 via @upi

I wonder if a dog is intelligent enough to learn from such an incident and stay away from icy rivers in future.

That is a good question if a dog learns their lessons after an accident happens.

@Deepizzaguy Different dog breeds are of different intelligence. Maybe dogs which can become seeing eye dogs for the blind can learn this.

I guess dogs like to jump into icy waters and then they fall inside of the rivers due to their weight.

It looks like a nice dog. Without wetsuits, the firefighters might have gotten very cold too. At least in the non-fire season, the firefighters are still performing usefully in these types of tasks too.

These stories are so scary. I love dogs and hate to see them in icy water. I'm so glad they rescued Rupert.

I also love dogs as well and I would not want them to get hurt myself.

I'm glad Rupert was rescued. What a nice name for a dog.
