Found My Niche! Now I just have to Find My Audience!

It's been 18 years since I stumbled upon this site, and I've come and gone over the years. To be honest I didn't even know it was still a thing. Maybe it's not and I'm just typing to ghosts of the past. The last time I stopped by, I was looking to start a blog, but of course, I failed. I've always known I wanted to write. That's what brought me to MyLot to begin with. Finally, I've found my Niche, writing historical mystery novels that are loosely based on true crime. Now, here I am on MyLot again because I need to find my audience, which is mostly women, aged 35-44 who like reading historical murder mysteries. So, I'll be on here a lot more. No, worries I'm not advertising anything, I'll mostly be asking questions about Self- Marketing, what works and what doesn't, and asking if anyone has any ideas that I haven't tried, and other novel/reader-related questions. I'll also be writing about what's working for me, what isn't, and what I find with those silly algorithms that mess up our social media posts from not being seen these days. Truth is, I'll be posting so much on here you might get sick of my posts (though I hope not) So, my first question is, are any of my old friends still around? Or do I have to get a whole new following on here as well?

I can't see your followers, but you can always check your list and see if any of them respond. I'm glad to hear you're back. You might find a few fellow writers on here who'd be happy to give their input.

Thank you, I'll look at my followers and see if they are active. It would also be really nice to connect with more writers especially ones in my genre.

@indiandevil I just know of two people who regularly post about their book writing. I'll see if I can get a hold of a friend I know, who's an author, too. She writes Fantasy-based novels, but may be able to offer input. I am not really much of a writer, myself. I do it mostly for fun and don't put a whole lot of effort in cleaning up my mistakes.

@kaylachan That would be great. I'd take any advice I can get right now. Most people pay someone to do the marketing for them but I really don't have the money to do that. Seems like I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Everyone who has read my first novel, have all said the same things about it. I'm slowly, learning marketing but it would be great if someone had some tips or advice I could use.

I am not in the 35-44 age range, but I love to read murder mysteries. Very few of your followers here in myLot are still active, I hope you can find new friends.

Thanks for letting me know it helps with my target audience, to know how to market. I've been mainly using Facebook, but maybe I should be using Instagram or TikTok too.

@indiandevil I know several myLot members over 60 who love murder mysteries, I am not the only one. I use Facebook, but never liked Instagram and I stay away from Tik Tok.
