Not sure how to paint the walls in the house

We are renovating the house right now. The walls everywhere are the same splatter paint that was popular in the 90s. We are going to get rid of that splatter paint and just do solid colors. We have to repaint the walls on the first floor, stairs to the second floor, second floor, stairs to the third floor, and third floor hallway. Not sure how to go about doing that. Should the walls on each of the floors be their own color and then the walls on each of the stairs be totally different colors? Or should the wall on the stairs match the color of the wall on the previous floor? Or something totally different? How many colors in all should their be?

You could always paint each floor its own color based on the personality of the rooms on each level, and then make the walls of the stairs be accent walls.

@lovebuglena It's just when you paint one wall in a room a different color than the rest of the room. It "accents" the room just like a lovely piece of furniture can "accent" a room. Helps break up the monotony of having all one color in the room.

@moffittjc thanks. Now I get it. Problem now is figuring out all the colors. It’s hard when there are so many options.

I personally would have the bedrooms each with their own colors. Then the rest all either a light grey or a light brown color. I think it would look rather weird to have each of the areas you mentioned different colors. Pictures and wall decor will cover the color anyway.

We are not repainting the bedrooms. Only living room, dining room, two stairs, and two hallways.

@lovebuglena .........I am talking about very light colors. The brown I had in mind is a light fawn color.

I can’t take a pic of the house so you can see each floor in one pic.

It sounds like you have a lot of work to do painting the walls. Before painting, I would see how the colors look next to each other.

That’s what hubby wanted to do. Get some samples and color a wall and see what looks best.

That is up to you. I suppose the walls on the stairs could be accent walls.

You can do it any way you see fit. You can have the stairs match the wall color to make it more uniform, or you can make the walls in the stairwells a different color. Good luck! Have a good day.

@lovebuglena Is it really expensive to hire an interior designer?
