Brownies and Cheese

Today was a visit to Borough Market, in Southwark, for those vital foodstuffs - Brownies and cheese. There has been a market on this site since the 12th century with the present buildings dating from the mid 19th century. Most of the stalls are supplied by small, family farms and businesses which makes for quality goods. Not only is there fresh, but food ready to eat from around the world. Must not forget that there are several pubs and a couple of wine bars, so all your refreshment needs are met! The first picture shows a part of the market, which is on the big size. The middle piccie shows my favourite stop for brownies and the last one shows an excellent stop for mature cheddar. I also got myself some old Emmental, or Swiss cheese if you prefer. Sadly those shots didn’t come out, It wasn’t until the trip home I realised that I had my video camera with me, but didn’t take a video. So I guess I shall have to go back and make sure to get some film.

I do enjoy wandering around this market. Still haven't been to Portabello, which is similar... I think!

This is a big and interesting marked. Emmental is the way I understand about which kind of cheese we are discussing. I bought a 15 month Emmental this morning, I am going to eat tonight.

@Ronrybs - Locally, they write for how many months it was "aged", they do the same for the Parmesan.

I am not sure how long 'old' was left to mature, but I couldn't wait and had some slices off the top. Very tasty!

@Ronrybs Sounds like fun. Do you have YouTube videos out there? I don't make videos of my travel experiences, but I do make YouTube videos on my music. Here's my latest. I hope you haven't already seen it.

That sounds like an interesting market. I enjoy shopping at markets, but our local market only has about 4 stalls.

My local,Uxbridge, has an occasional market of about half-a-dozen, but don't think it has been there for a while. Brunel university did have market during term time and rather good it was too
