T-Bone Steak vs New York Strip

This one surprised me a few short years ago. Did you know that New York Strip IS T-Bone without the bone and the other side of the bone? My question is WHY? Why cut half of a steak off the bone and give it a different name? Does it make the steak taste better? I am 68 years old and had never had a New York Strip in my life until a couple years ago and started buying steaks here at a store that has wonderful meat at very good sale prices. I looked it up online (I look a lot of random things up) and found out about these "two" steaks. Speaking of one steak having two names, did you also know that a Porterhouse steak is just a thicker cut of a T-Bone? Now that I knew for many, many years. So, now that you know, what would your choice be to buy from a store or at a nice restaurant? I would buy the Porterhouse if available. Otherwise, I would buy the T-Bone if available. If neither were available, I would go for the Ribeye. From the store, I would get the Porterhouse or the T-Bone. I just do not see the point of cutting almost half the meat away just to call it a different kind of steak. T-Bones have always been my favorite steak. What do you think? What is your favorite steak?

If I am buying it in the store I would probably go for the New York Strip. The bone adds weight and I would essentially be paying more for the bone, even though cooking it with the bone I think adds flavor. Personally, I prefer the Ribeye.

Yes, the bone adds some weight. However, the added meat on the other side adds value to me. Plus, when I am able to buy it on the bone on sale, it is cheaper per pound than the New York Strip. I think they charge more for the name.

@capirani I have seen that too, and price, at least at the store, can decide my pick.

I'm a believer in meat, I like them all, med rare, flip wait 5-10 mins & flip that bad boy over for 10 mins & let me at it, I don't like them burnt, I or B B Qed cause people don't know how to cook them right. When I cook mine it's super simple, I put it on a low flame-heat & let the meat simmer in it's own juices, & have it covered to hold the heat, it's like air frying it almost, & talk about good O M L.

I like mine either medium or medium well. I do not like my meat bloody.

Yes, I knew, New York strip steak is one of the portions of steak that makes up the T-bone. My favorite steak is beef tenderloin.
