New parking fees at our airport

Julia (@Juliaacv) wrote about the high cost of parking at medical centres in her region. Parking at hospitals here is incredibly expensive too. Parking at the airport is even worse but now they’ve brought in a new device to gain them even more money. There is an area at the airport where you can drop off people and leave immediately. The latest addition is a sensor that marks the time that you enter that zone. You have five minutes to exit at the other end. However, five minutes is barely enough time to unload your passenger and their luggage. If you exceed the five minutes, you are slugged a fee. I think if is very unfair but there isn’t much you can do about it. The photo is of another jigsaw that I finished last week.

Five minutes isn't long enough to drop someone off at the airport.

It's long enough to drop ONE PERSON off, but not their luggage or any companions.

@BarBaraPrz I agree. They would all need to have carryon so they could hop out and you could leave.

It's just stupid. Another way to increase their profits.

I agree that it is unfair, five minutes are almost not enough to drop one passenger and no luggage. Pretty jigsaw.

@JudyEv Here it is 15 minutes at the airports, the driver must remain by the car, but the time to unload passengers and luggage is 15 minutes.

I'm hoping that people will write letters and lobby against such a ridiculously short time. I'm glad you like the jigsaw.

@LadyDuck That makes much more sense. With sensors recording the times, you have no option but to pay the fee. There is no-one to complain to. You pay up or stay there all night/day.

That is a sneaky and underhanded way of gouging innocent people. Here one lot began doing it and then it just became common practice among all of the lots. I can see paying in the 'high rent' areas such as the downtown areas of any city, as that is prime land and they pay high taxes for that property. That is a very nice jigsaw, so many colours, how many pieces was that one?

It was 500 pieces. The flowers were a bit tricky but the pieces were really interesting shapes so mostly, once I had the right colour in my head, I went looking for the shapes.

Love the jigsaw. Thank goodness I love close enough to the airport that I can take a bus!

There is now a train that goes right to the airport which would make it easier for some. But sometimes you like to take people there, especially if they have a couple of largish cases. I thought you'd like the jigsaw! lol

@Ronrybs 'Captive being the operative word. If you don't pay, I guess you stay there till you do. There is no-one to abuse either which is probably a good thing. The sensors record the time and if you're over time, you have to use your card to pay.

@JudyEv When you have a captive audience you squeeze out what you can, I guess

I used to troll parking lots for dropped quarters at the gate but these days they require cards, don't they, so no more free money that way. Lovely jigsaw puzzle. At first, I thought it was a cross-stitch that someone left the gridding in...

Just about eveerything is card nowadays or paying with a mobile phone. I guess if someone dropped a coin at the exit gate, they wouldn't bother getting out to pick it up.

There is a lot of security at the airports now. If you tried to steal a car you'd have to pay the parking fee to get out of the place.

@judyev that’s how it works here too. And all you’re doing is stopping the car, it’s not as if the airport’s losing money providing some service or other - your car’s just sitting there doing nothing.
