There is a TV programme here called Muster Dogs. In the series we watched 5 Border Collie pups from a litter of ten, are given to five different people. The five have to train the dogs to be efficient muster dogs by the age of twelve months. So that’s the back story. I was talking to a fellow resident in our village and she has a kelpie which needs a lot of stimulation and exercise. When she needs a little bit of peace and rest, she put on a replay of Muster Dogs and her kelpie settles down to watch the program. This just struck me as so cute. The photo is of a different kelpie at an endurance ride.

Anything with dogs and/or horses catches this one's attention. It reminds me of putting a cartoon on for the kids!

@LadyDuck Our cat inspected the back of the TV once, looking for the birds.

That is a good way to keep the dog busy. Mine haven't shown interest in any shows yet

I sometimes wonder what they make of it all. It sounds as though they actually recognise animals on TV at least.

@JudyEv I think they do know what they are. Just many don't care what is happening

It's interesting that a television program would calm her down and watch the program. I haven't heard of the television program, but it sounds interesting. Kelpies are beautiful dogs.

@JudyEv Interesting. It's good she can have a quiet hour during the day.

Apparently her dog likes any programs involving dogs and/or horses.

They are dogs that 'muster' or round up sheep, cattle or goats. So basically sheep dogs and cattle dogs.

She said it needs a lot of stimulation but really it's not the best breed for such tiny yards as these are.

I think that would be great to train dogs to be a muster dog.

They are only young to be doing such work but they are very quick to learn.

I thought it was quite funny but a good way to keep the dog happy for a while.

I'd read that with the switch to HD TV from the old standard that both cats and dogs watch the box now

@JudyEv I guess they realised that the old system was rather poor... or maybe they like the stereo sound!
