Went To Trader Joe's

The last time I was at a Trader Joe's was probably about 14 or 15 years ago in Bayshore near Milwaukee when we lived in Wisconsin. I remember being completely unimpressed by the store then, which is why it has been 14 or 15 years since we last went.
But I got an itch and said, "Let's give it another look." After all, Trader Joe's gets talked up quite a bit. Maybe it's better?
My impression was a tiny bit better, but not much better. I don't think it will be 14 or 15 years before the next visit, but I still found myself mostly unimpressed. It's just one of those places that is, to my mind, overpriced and quite a lot overrated.
We didn't buy much. Some garlic cheesy bread sticks. A bag of Joe's Dark Coffee. A 22-ounce bag of frozen Mandarin orange chicken. A box of chicken drumellas. And an eggplant that I will make an eggplant parmigiana out of sometime in the next few days.
The best purchase, I feel, was this insulated bag for $7.99. It is identical to the one we bought a few years ago from Aldi, and I had been wanting another one, so this worked out well. They are superb in the summer when you are running extended errands and need to keep cold stuff cold.
All said, my total bill was $30.05. Not terrible even though I didn't get much to show for it. I'd give Trader Joe's a 2 out of 5 stars. That might be saying something since even Aldi is a 4 out of 5. The higher priced grocery store here, Schnuck's, is a 3 out of 5 and Ruler Foods is also a 4 and Walmart is a 5.

Haven't been to our new Trader Joe's. It's not convenient; and I do all of our shopping online at Walmart these days. I fill up the cart; and now hubby's cousin will pick it up for me. Have a good day.

Well, I'm glad you found something. 30 isn't to bad a spend. I spent about that when we went to Aldi last week.

I grew up with an abundance of Trader Joes near me, because I grew up in Portland, Oregon and with all the hippies and tree huggers all around....That was there store to go to. As well as Zupans and some other like stores. So I have never really been impressed by the stores. The last time I went to one was probably in Tennessee twelve years ago or so.
We have a Whole Foods in Destin, which we go into maybe once or twice a year, but I prefer Aldi to all the other "better" and healthier stores.
I really liked Zupans when I was growing up but I am fairly certain there was only one or two of those.

Hippies and tree huggers is a really accurate description of the clientele of Trader Joe's. Whole Foods felt like the same crowd to me—owned by Amazon, by the way. Never heard of Zupans. Around here the main go to's for cheaper food is Aldi and Ruler, the latter of which is owned by Kroger.
There's a Save-A-Lot on North Belt East, but it's a janky, dirty store, although I have been meaning to check it out again as Save-A-Lot all over has been remodeling stores and trying to improve their image. So, maybe it is better now? I will have to give it a look.

We don't go to a traders johns cause we don't have 1
we have a Aldies, Wal mart, groggers, & that's about it.
Our Aldies doesn't have a lot of items to buy cause it's
not a very big store to start with & with the food & stuff
we have in our pantry room now we're stuffed to the max
on food where we need to eat & use what we got B-4
getting anything else.
