Doctors and Medications Oh My

I have lived in Boise, Idaho all of my life. I have always had good health care. Even when I was unemployed for a period of time I was able to find programs in the community that helped me. I remember once my BFF was trying to get some help for her grandson who had some learning problems. She could not find any programs to help him. I went through and found some names of programs here that I thought just maybe had a program there as well. Nope. Nothing. And today it seems the same. Online and on Mylot I read quite often about people who can't get a certain medication or can't get in to see a doctor for months. It sounds like there is a real shortage in some areas. I know that some doctors got up and left certain areas after the laws changed on abortions and such things but there should be plenty of medical doctors. Do you have good health care/coverage where you live? Do you have problems getting the medications you need?

We have a big shortage of doctors where I live in Canada. I don't have a family doctor but luckily I have a good cardiologist who makes sure I get my medication and blood work done.

Thank goodness you have that. A shortage, huh? That's rather scary. I hope it gets better, not worse.

I have ok health coverage but we get financial assistance with medical bills too through a program that Ohio health has. Getting in to see a doctor isn't to bad in my area

Sounds just great. Always nice when your area has programs that help. That happened to me after I too an early retirement. I had to wait for my SS to kick in and there was a community program that paid for my annual doctor visits and medication so that was sure nice.

We have no problems here, I know there is shortage of some medications, but we usually have everything we need.

I feel restricted in a way, because of my insurance. It's probably the best out there for my needs, but the doctors I see tend to get hyper focused on one thing and just don't take the time to get to know me. My husband, as you know, recently had a stroke. He's been with the VA for a few years now and they've covered everything except his transportation. Which will likely not get paid. I don't want to deplete our savings, but dam. The cost of living isn't getting easier and now George's retired.

Thank God, no, I don’t have problems. I’m a postal retiree, so I have insurance there. Plus, I’m a veteran so I have access to the VA. I have some frustrations every now and then (prosthetics decided, after six years or so of giving me my shoe inserts, that I need to see an orthopedist ), but I’m truly blessed. If something happens while I’m on the road I can go to the nearest VA and get my meds refilled.
