We Are All So Spoiled

I remember back when I was a young girl of about 6 or 7 and I helped my grandmother with the washing. She had one of those old ringer washers. She scrubbed the clothes, each individually with a stiff brush. Then I would hold the clothes while she turned to crank to ring out the water so she could hang up the clothes. She hauled out all the pans and equipment each week for years. She never used an automatic clothes washer. I also remember the wood-burning stove and how grandmother pitched a fit when they bought her a new electric one. She still used the wood burner but she seemed to enjoy the convenience of the electric one.
I wonder how the pioneer woman would scoff at us spoiled women of today. I have been having some sinus issues lately due to dust and pollen in the air. I got some new decongestant OTC a few weeks back. I wonder what the pioneer women would do. All the dust and pollen they had to put up with. Grin and bear it probably.
So many things we take for granted nowadays that pioneer women had never even heard of back then. Things like giving birth in a hospital, meds for the common cold, bath soaps, clothing, shoes, kitchen appliances, cleaning products, technology, stress pills, anti-depressants, menstrual pain relief and pads, hair products, hand lotion, sunscreen, frozen foods, delivery service, and the list goes on and on.
What one thing would you really miss if you were a pioneer woman? For me, it would be the internet/technology.

@celticeagle I do not care of a dishwasher or a microwave, but without the refrigerator it would be hard.

That is true. Just since the 50's there have been so many improvements and what did we do back then without a computer and the internet?

@celticeagle I know that answer. We played outside and had lots of fun until the streetlights came on and we needed to go inside.

For real..I have been aware of this since I was a babe. My Mother told me how my Granny lived in Ireland. Had nothing walking miles to feed her children.

Yes, indeed. My grandmother had 8 other sisters and a brother. They were very poor.

ac and heat, and technology. I always get frustrated with books and movies set in other eras because i kept thinking why don't they look up on the computer, or call someone on a cell phone. lol

I did a posting on this about a year ago comparing today with the 60s. There were quite a few things on my list. The internet was definitely one of them. Have a good day.

Yes, even from the 60's. The Internet is so important to me. I love to do research.
