Algophobia

Algophobia is the fear of pain. I was thinking of all of the sports I did with my children and grandchildren. If I had the fear of pain I would not have went swimming, no skating or ice skating with them. I would fear the pain that I would be in if I fell and got hurt. What a boring life I would have had if I had the fear of pain.
It is normal not to want to be in pain but to fear pain would keep you from doing a lot of activities. From having fun. So I am glad I do not have this fear.
With this fear you stay away from anything that might be dangerous because of your fear. You might even panic over a headache.

I had a friend in grade school, she was afraid of everything imaginable! Her mother was overly protective, so afraid that Shelly would possibly fall down and get hurt. Shelly became the exact same way!

@kobesbuddy I wonder if she is still that way.

@jstory07 She would look at other kids, to see if their hands were dirty. Shelly was afraid of germs and anything that wasn't clean.

I'm not afraid of pain, surviving child birth cured me of any fear of it.

@LeaPea2417 Yes, childbirth was a terrifying lesson to learn about pain!

I avoid painful diagnostic testing, but that's about the sum of it. I still live.

@jstory07 I wouldn't say full blown, but might to a degree. It's not stopping me from living, but I don't go out of my way to do something I know is going to hurt, or possibly put me out of commission. The doctors want me to have a mamagram and pap, I've refused, because I can't afford the recovery time. First it was because George was working and I spent a lot of time home alone. Now, lately, it's the stroke. while valid, it's still making excuses not to do it.

@kaylachan I can understand not doing something because you need to be there for George.

I don't like things that I know will cause me pain; but I do them anyway...like certain medical procedures. Have a good day.

@jstory07 I still have a lot of anxiety before something I know will hurt.

You're absolutely spot on, on your take. I remember once when I had just started taking a few steps in my early childhood, I fell and the fear gripped me so strong that I refused to stand up and walk. I always used to either hold my father's finger, or the end of his shirt. A neighbor observed this and since I loved to play football, told my father to throw the ball. I ran.

I think it is great to be active but all in moderation. I can understand how some can be afraid of pain. It's sad that some are afraid of having pain and so they don't do some things. Life is too short.

I never had this but I did have a very high tolerance for pain when I was growing up. Then I wound up with anxiety issues and now I have a very low tolerance for pain so I am glad I have not even had a headache in ages,

Thank goodness I have a fear of heights and frogs but not the fear of pain.

I do fear pain to some extent but did fall a number of times while learning cycling.
