Good night everyone.

I'm not going to bed yet. In fact I might be up late doing laundry. I know George is going to soak through his pants. That being said, I did want to get a third discussion posted just for the heck of it. It's nearing nine PM, and it'll be time for George's final dose for the day. I'll also be setting up to do his final tube feed for the night, and with luck I'll get him to nibble on something that's solid food. His swollow has drasticly improved and I think that's amazing.

He's doing well. With his swallowing improving, it might not be long before the tube feeds are done.

Actually, the tube feeds are contengant upon how much he eats. He never ate a lot (usually one meal a day), so that's what might take the most time. He may never get to where he wants to eat several times a day, but he also needs to gain weight and put on some fat.

@just4him At this stage, no. He was underweight before he had the stroke by about ten pounds. He lost another twenty in hospital. If he stays underweight, it'll put a strain on his heart, causing things like afib which could lead to more strokes or out right kill him. So, until he gains enough weight and can maintain it, they want to ensure he gets all the colories he can.The four cartons I give him, total about 80 percent of his total coloric intake for the day. The rest he gets from the stuff he drinks during the day, and the partial meal he eats at night. He's still not eating a complete meal in one setting. However, the fact he's asking for dinner is encouraging even if there's leftovers.

@kaylachan Won't they take it into consideration that he's not used to eating more than one meal a day? If he eats a lot at that meal, it should help get him off the tube feeds.

If George can finally swallow solid food, he will recover a lot faster from now on.

He can. I know he can. He just needs to want to. Asking for dinner, is a positive sign.

Yeah. It can only get better the more he works at it.

He's been working on it for months, he's only recently asked me for something to eat.
