Rivian Is Becoming A Confounded Investment

Ever since I bought into the IPO roughly two years ago, it's been a virtual roller coaster ride owning EV automaker Rivian, which makes the R1T pickup truck and the RS1 SUV as well as the new Amazon delivery vans. I just wrote a couple of weeks ago about a terrible earnings report that sank shares dramatically. But I also announced my position was a hold, meaning I would not sell or add any shares. Maybe I should have bought some more. But I am already pretty heavily invested. Today Rivian shares surged almost 14% on a sudden and secret announcement that they are introducing new models and have found cost savings of $2.25 billion. We knew about the R2. But now they are introducing R3 and R3X crossovers, which should be huge since crossovers continue to dominate consumer interests in cars. The R2's will be cheaper than the R1 series which start at $70k and can go up o $100k. R2's should start at $45k. They have not announced price points for the R3's as of yet, but they have indicated they will be in the R2 range as they seek to get the attentions of more consumers. Rollouts won't be immediate of course. The R2 won't hit markets until around 2026. And there's still a long road ahead. But it is a clear sign showing Rivian is not resting on its laurels. It's building a viable business that will pay massive dividends to investors over the long haul, and that was reflected in today's bounce. My position remains a hold for now as I continue to await seeing a strong new resistance level. As an investor, even though I have not seen any R3 concepts yet, I think they would be a game changer.

I cannot stand the way the front of those things look. I HATE that headlight configuration.

I am pretty much in agreement with you. It looks like a bug. lol. Maybe the design will get better? But they do get very positive, rave reviews, so I guess most people sort of like the bug look?

@porwest It looks weird, I don't know if I would say bug. But it looks I don't know like something that should be in Tron or some stupid movie.

@thislittlepennyearns It definitely could use some rethinking. It's my least favorite look of the design. Overall, I like the Rivian design, except that part.

Not a vehicle I would purchase; but I hope the stock does well for you. Have a good weekend.

@porwest What about Nvidia (spelling?). I guess that company has been doing really well.

@LindaOHio I have not invested, but yes. They are posting some pretty nice gains. When things are "on a tear" I tend not to dive in since when I do, that's usually when they start reversing course. Just a thing. Not sure why that is. Krispy Kreme was one like that. It was up and up and up and up and split after split after split. I finally said, "I should get on board with this thing," and then it tanked. lol

There will likely never be one in my driveway either. Just not practical right now. I am going to be very curoious to see what the crossovers look like once they get some concepts out. One EV I REALLY do like the styling of is the Ford Mach-E Mustang.

Rivian's forward-thinking approach with the R2 and upcoming R3 models, coupled with substantial cost savings, signals a resilient business strategy. The anticipation for R3's impact adds an intriguing layer to your long-term perspective.

I agree. They are a start up essentially not unlike any other startup in a field where there is lots of competition, and it will take time for their business to grow and develop. I am willing to stick around and hopefully proft with them as they do it.

I don't get into such things as this cause I have nothing to say 1 way or the other on it. About the only thing I can say is good luck.

Luck is not part of investing. Only knowledge. If one thinks luck will get them through, they'd have a better chance going to a casino.
