I got a text from a phone number I didn't reconize. Since I'd recently been in contact with home health, I answered. It didn't take me long to realize I was talking to a scammer. And, the tip-off, is they continued talking to me, when I told them they had a wrong number. I looked up the number on True caller, and it confirmed it was spam. But, even before doing that, they asked me an unusal question. The person asked me my gender..... When I refused, they didn't seem to understand why I wouldn't tell them. I didn't let it get much further. I blocked them. Speaking of spam, I solved the scammer mystery. My old number got taken over by scammers so I got a new one. But, since I haven't been able to update my information with everyone that George's in contact with, I turned on call forwarding. The spam call came from my old number, but, that's cool. Because now that I realize that.... I can better screen my calls.

I sure hope those scammers will start leaving you alone, You should hear what is going on outside, The bikers are looping around all the streets and looking forward to the concert later which I can hear very well, In other words, it is like a three-ring circus but luckily all through that my groceries got delivered, The lady who delivered them thanked me for braving the horror and coming down to find her SIGH

@RebeccasFarm Given how stupid sensitive people about being "misgendered" I can why someone might ask that. But over text message? Really? I thought it was odd that the first question was asking where I was from, but i got annoyed by the gender question, or rather my refusal to answer.

You would think they would have something better to do. You are smart enough not to be fooled.

They made themselves obvious. I would think that most people would find that question strange. I am a woman in every sense of the word. I will proudly admit it. But, I still found the question a little unsetteling. If it was phrased differently I might not have been as suspicious. But, I am sure, the fact the person kept talking would've wireded most people out. Normally when you tell someone they have a wrong number they stop talking.

@kaylachan They are horrible, I also receive emails pretending that it is the police or the Federal Government. They do everything to steal your data and get some money.

I suspect it was probably a romance scammer or something. I didn't stick around to find out.

I have gotten a few scam calls, and they ask the same question about gender. When that happens I simply reply that "I'm an ignat". It's quiet for a couple of seconds and they finally say, "That gender isn't on my computer" and I tell them to suggest that it get added and I hang up. Since I started threatening with my attorney and registered on the do not call list, my phone is very (thankfully) quiet. I didn't forward any calls from my old number so I don't have that to worry about, but if they show "SCAM POSSIBLE" on my screen I ignore them. Thank you for the words of warning though!

Yeah. not a problem. this was a text message. It's unusal that scammers will directly text phone numbers. Their perfered method is usually is to use facebook messanger, instagram dms or some other platform to get people's 'direct number'. Or go streight for the kill so-to-speak. I have never had someone ask me my gender via text message. I was ammused.

@BearArtistLady When a scammer buys something on the dark web, it often doesn't come with the person's name. scammers have lists of phone numbers. In some cases, they will get a name, but I'm real careful where I use my real legal name and where I use an aliais. The person played it cool, saying they were looking for someone named "joe" which is unisex.

I think it will. I don't know if it'll entirealy stop, because my info keeps getting sold and re-sold. But, scammers will eventually give up.

We get a lot less calls these days since I don't answer any call with a number I don't recognize. Have a good day.
