Do You Upside?

It's always nice when you can accumulate some awards and then put them to work, as I like to do. I cashed out $200 of $430 I had in Discover cash back awards, and $100 from the $162 I had in Upside rewards, and then I have about $50 from myLot in PayPal I will add to the mix. It will all go into BXMX which is an ETF that pays a little over 7%. So, that means my $350 in total cashouts will earn me another $24.50. Upside is a great app that pays you cash back on select gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants, and sometimes offers deals from other establishments. It's worth it if you are already going to spend at any of these places anyway. Do you use Upside, and do you invest your rewards or just spend them?

I just earn peanut online. I accumulate the money in Paypal and when the amount reaches a certain level, I transfer it to my bank account.

I don’t use Upside, but I know a lot of people that do. I probably should check it out. One of the guys I work with has also been talking a lot about Moocho, but I haven’t checked that out yet either.

I know there are a couple of apps out there, but I have only ever used Upside. It's nice too since I am building discounts since I get cash back on my Discover card on top of what I get from Upside. It's a bit of win, win.

@porwest That’s nice when you can double dip on the savings/cash back deals.

My rewards go to paying my bills. I have tried to use Upside, but the selection avaible was limited last time I used it. The gas station we normally use is an option, but not the exact address we go to.

I have to admit, I would use Upside much more if it had more options. Even when it comes to Schnuck's grocery store, it's the only grocery store on the app, and I hardly ever shop there since everyone else is always mostly cheaper.

@porwest I think they are trying to add more to compel people to use the ap. However, there's still a long way to go. Most stores have their own programs.... so....yay? Doesn't help aps like upside.

I have never heard of Upside. I just always use my credit card, which gives me cash for each purchase. I actually used "rewards" points I didn't know I have at a Safeway gas station recently.

@TheHorse That's kind of my reaction too. Money just stacking on top of money. How could that ever be a bad thing?

This is where Upside is a win, win. I go to Schnuck's for example. They offer 5% back on Upside. I use my Discover card, which pays me 1% back. I now get 6% back. On TOP of that Schnuck's ALSO has a reward program, which is about 1%. So, just using Upside and Discover I get 7% back. Unless grocery stores are on the quarterly 5% bonus. Then I get 11% back.

This is the first I've heard of Upside. Do you have to have a smartphone to take advantage of it? Have a good day.

Yeah, it's an app you use on your phone. Really easy to use and does payoff pretty well, but again, I only use it for places I am already going to shop anyway.

Never heard of this one, I guess it doesn't work in all countries. I usually spend my rewards on online shopping for my home.

Me too. I use Discover. It's win, win. When I go to Schnuck's or the gas station I get 1% back on my Discover and whatever Upside pays me. So, since the average is 5% for Schnuck's on Upside, between Discover and Upside, I get 6% back. Of course, it's more if the quarterly bonus includes gas or grocery stores. Then I get 10% back.

If they had more options I would probably use it much more. But I will admit the offerings are a bit limited.

It's a great little app. I only use it if I am already planning on shopping somewhere. But not bad for about a year's use to accumulate $162.

I just leave it all with my accountant and let him handle everything. Not sure if I ever mentioned it, but my accountant is the brother of Glen and Gary McCoy of The Flying McCoys, and Glen works on the Minions stuff.

We don't have a smart phone like millions do to get such an app, & what rewards we get we, let build up to where we have enough goes towards what we're buying.

It is especially nice when I can use it at Schnuck's since they typically give back 5% on Upside, plus you get the in-store rewards, and I use my Discover which gives me another 1%-5% back.

I have rewards when I go grocery shopping that works at the gas station. Since I don't have a car anymore, those rewards are useless unless I can convince someone to use them. So far, no one has taken the offer. I can't get cashback on them.

haven't heard of that. I have a few ways of collecting money while shopping. We use gift cards from Alberta Motor Association to buy groceries. 5% of each gift card can be spent at AMA, including paying that bill. The gas we buy pays 7cents per litre that we spend where we buy groceries. Plus we use the FlashFoods App
