This past weekend, our granddaughter Aubrey had a horse-back riding show, in the state of Indiana. Aubrey and her parents took their small house trailer and stayed for three nights.
Aubrey did really well and she got a number 1 rating. They are very proud of their 12 year old daughter! She really loves the equestrian sport:)
When I was her age, I always wanted to own a horse. I was never able to do this, but now my granddaughter really enjoys horseback riding. We have attended some of her riding shows, when they're held in the Detroit area.

If I could have just owned and ridden a horse, I would have been very happy!

It's hard for them to travel so much. But, it's well worth their time, spent with Aubrey:)

@kobesbuddy I guess it is not my skill to do it again. We are on the same page with this concern.

I have ridden a horse probably ten times in my life. Am I good at it? NO!

When she first started riding lessons, I was nervous about this. She was only 3 years old, but her mother was right there at her side.

Congratulations to yoir grand daughter. That is wonderful. When my niece was younger she competed in a lot of shows and loved it. She still has her horse but she is away at university now and no longer competes.

When Aubrey started riding lessons, she was three years old. I was very worried about her safety! My daughter took riding lessons too, they did this together.

They have to travel a lot, to be there for her shows. It's very hard to fit these trips in! As long as Aubrey is enthused this sport, they continue to fit these weekends in:)

Congratulations, I am so happy for her as well as the rest of the family, something to be so proud of.
I remember when she was just a little one you posting about her horse riding lessons and her love of horses, that has really grown into a passion. Good for her.

Aubrey started lessons when she was three! I was afraid that she'd get injured:( One time it was raining and everyone was getting soaking wet. Aubrey was sitting on her horse, ready to go through the gate. The horse arched his back and shook off the water. There was Aubrey, she slipped off and was sitting in a mud puddle! We ran to help her, she replied, "Oops! I fell off!" No, she didn't get hurt:)

@kobesbuddy my concern was also that when on a horse you are high up and I am scared of heights, So the one and only time I rode when they got me on the horse my heart was racing and I saw how high I was and then the horse moved and I say It moves! I got through the trail ride with others and a guide but was glad to get back on the ground, Along the way I kept patting the horse's neck and whispering in his ear how wonderful he was,

The judges ask for certain maneuvers and they rate how well the rider controls the horse. The animal must display total obedience, at all times. Aubrey uses her feet, hands and reigns, her posture. All these things have to be perfect.

As they progress up the ladder, the awards are different. Before, they would earn a blue or a red ribbon for 1st and 2nd place. The judges are professionals, they watch for every movement that it's correct. I think there's a panel of seven judges, who give each rider marks and ratings.

They travel all over the place, following her horse shows:) I'd love to be able to do that, but we can't.
