How does this work?

I was intrigued the other day when, passing a coffee shop, I saw this advertised outside. A peanut-butter cup-flavoured hot chocolate drink. Well it sounds tasty as I like the chocolate and peanut butter combination in other formats, and I like hot chocolate, but then I was nonplussed by the footnote “made without nuts”. How does that work? If the peanut butter flavour doesn’t come from peanut butter or any other peanut or nut derivative, what on Earth is it? I can only assume it must be some chemical substitute, in which case, no thanks. Has anyone tried any nut-free nut-flavoured foods or drinks? I love chocolate and peanut butter but I pass on hot chocolate and peanut butter drinks. I don't know how that coffee shop does it but here is something you might find interesting,

Has to be some chemical concoction. I'm not crazy about chocolate and peanut butter; so I would pass. Have a good day.

I don't think so. They must use some kind of peanut butter flavoring. It makes you wonder if it doesn't contain nuts..what does it contain?

It can only come from a chemical substitute, what a weird idea. I surely like hot chocolate, I never had peanut butter cups because I am allergic to peanuts... NO way I would try a products that is all chemical.

Peanut butter cup hot chocolate does sound intriguing but I have to agree about the no nuts part. There's so much stuff in our food/drinks these days I don't think much is 100% natural anymore.

I haven't heard of it. I definitely wouldn't try it, even if I wasn't allergic to peanuts.

It is funny to note that although it tastes like peanut butter, it is not made of nuts. I suppose the reason for adding this footnote is to allow those who are allergic to nuts to purchase and eat these, as they are perfect for those who have nut allergies.

Yes, absolutely, allergen-free. I just wonder what it consists of, exactly!

Sounds improbable, doesn't it?

My husband would like this drink! Even in coffee he adds flavours, like chestnut or caramel. I prefer not to mix my favorite drinks with flavours.

I would have asked the person in the place what it was made of, or how it's made they would know. There is such thing as a peanut butter that has no nuts which is a smooth peanut butter.
