Restricting some breeds of pedigree dogs...India..what next...

Babies are being attacked by street dogs. Street dogs include some of the dogs that people no longer want...their initial fancy wanes. Or those dogs that have become unhealthy or too old. These dogs have it tough among the more experienced dogs that know how to find food in waste bins. There are territorial behaviors among street dogs. So yeah...the pedigree owner is making his dog starve. Other street dogs tend to threaten such owned dogs, who are not equipped to fight their battles so go hungry for many days at a stretch and also get plenty of bites trying to get some food. It is then that the baby attack manifests. I am not justifying the brutal attacks on babies and eating them. I am merely saying we are treating the symptom, not the disease...the disease is in humans...getting bored of the pedigree species...or not being caring enough. What solution can you think of? I have been trying to feed the street dogs. Now and then. So that they leave babies alone. They eat Parle Glucose biscuits. But may hesitate to pick one when we are around. They also eat bread rusks. As to mothers, yeah...keep your babies safe. Isn't that your responsibility?

That breaks my heart that dogs are going hungry on the streets. Anyone that releases a dog because they are unfit or old ought to be punished.

I would keep my kids very close with wild dogs around. People should not turn them out like that. We have a dog pound that picks up strays. They then try to get them homes.

While pedigrees are not turned out that often, some pedigree cross breeds are. Especially when they age or develop ticks etc. Here, we have no such things. We no longer find dog puppies around on the roads, which means these dogs have been neutered. That still means the problem is here to stay for another 6 to 10 years.

There are no street dogs here. We saw them everywhere in Nepal but they were tolerated and fed by the locals as it seems they are in India.
