Tried The Air Fryer

Cooked French Fries...Not real sure if we did it right, but they Were Crispy...just not very flavorable. Maybe we could have sprayed them with some oil..pretty bland tasting. AND it took a little longer than the deep fryer. Might try some chicken wings this coming week. Tom put our sausage dogs in the basket with the fries. The dogs were done in no time and cooked really good. Had to leave the fries in there another 15 min. So not real impressed with the air fryer...will stick to deep frying my fries.

Were the packaged fries or homemade? I only ask because if you make homemade they usually need a little help since the packaged variety are usually seasoned and pre soaked in brine before frying and freezing. That being said, I do not own an air fryer and have never used one.

Dixie has an air fryer but after comparing results I prefer an old fashioned deep fry even if it is less healthy. After all, I don´t eat fried food every day.

( I do not own an air fryer and have never used one.) Really ? with the cooking you post I'm surprised that you don't have 1, I do & I'm glad I got 1 cause I can't have fried foods so its a good thing I got 1 when I did a few months before I landed in the hospital.

I fixed Ore Ida Frozen Krinkle Cut Fries. No seasoning on them or coating, just regular Krinkle Fries. Thinking maybe I should have sprayed them with some oil spray like Pam. Or maybe put some kind of seasoning on them. A lot of them were crispy somewhat...some OVER crispy. But just a Bland flavor to them. And the texture of the potato inside was cottony, not soft and squishy. LOL Just seemed Dried Out. I get better fries in the regular oven than what I got in the Air Fryer.

I am assuming that you had homemade fries in there because I tried a baked potato once and will never do that again. Takes way too long. These air fryers are not for convenience time wise!

@Ghostlady Wow! I would always spritz fries with olive oil before cooking in air fryer.

They do have some online tips for cooking french fries in the air fryer. What I like is potato wedges in the air fryer made out of a potato. I think those are awesome. Fairly healthy too.

Dixie has an air fryer but I don´t think that I´ll spend that money for the few fried food I eat. And there are several things I deep fry that don´t taste as good in an air fryer. Cheese fried empanadas are one of them.

@Ghostlady I tried to paint them with oil and place them in the oven once. Luckily I was making an experiment and only did it with a couple. They were HORRIBLE!

I’ve never used one, but I imagine it’s a trial-and-error device that I just don’t have the time to try and err.

I'm curious about deep frying. Do you same the oil each time?

We use the same oil sometimes for a month..it is covered. When it is time to change it, we usually have fish, as you really don't want to eat stuff fried after fish have been fried. Tom takes care of the deep fryer and the grill. I take care of everything else.

I don’t have an air fryer, but most people rave about theirs. I’m sure there are duds though that just don’t taste the same when cooked that way. Fries are something I just never eat unless I’m at a restaurant; I’m not sure why.

Being KETO based in my diet, I rarely get fries of my own to cook. When I do, I get the krinkle cut and heat them in the oven. They turn out just how I like them. The only fries I like from restaurants are McDonald's fries, though I sometimes get them from other places. Having an air fryer doesn't interest me since KETO is high fat. Over my years on KETO, I don't use as much fat as I used to when I first started. I do have a George Foreman grill though and I always loved cooking on it. Where I live now I have no counterspace to use it, or an air fryer for that matter.

I always put my homemade fries into a freezer bag and add a bit of oil to it and some seasoning and shake it up before putting it into the basket of the air fryer oven. We like them better than deep fried. It just takes alot of practice to get things tasting exactly the way you prefer them to.

I'm sorry your air fryer didn't make the fries very well. Have a good day.

There is a trick to getting them right. You have to figure out what works for you. I prefer them jn the air fryer to deep frying them but everybody has their own preference.

Deep frying vs. Air fryer making fries I don't like crispy fries, but deep frying them isn't good either & it really sucks when I can't have fried foods.
