Big News today in the US, not sure if you have seen it, but a cargo ship from Singapore smashed into the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore at least 20 are missing. This bridge is over the Chesapeake Bay I believe, and I have traveled on it several times. I do know a few people who live in that area including my nephew, but he lives a bit SouthWest of the city, and probably never goes on that bridge. That doesn't mean he doesn't know people who use it. He is kind of a home and work guy. I do know someone else too who lives in the area but not sure of her commute. I think fortunately, the cargo ship hit at 1:30 AM time when there were probably not commuters on the bridge. Pray for them!

Yes, and that saved alot of lives. It seems some of those missing were working on the bridge. They do say there are 5 cars under the water There is going to be an update at 12..If only six end up killed, that will be a minor miracle.

@LadyDuck Yes, so fortunate the time of day it happened, and the fact the Mayday was issued and the anchor dropped surely saved lives.

It brought back memories of anothe bridge (or 2) struck by ships along the Welland Canal.
There were no fatalities, but the Steelton taking out the Port Robinson Bridge effectively killed a community. The bridge was never replaced.
It happened in 1974 and I went to observe the damage myself.

Yeah, the video is something. Thank God the police were on the ball and stopped any traffic from going on the bridge once they heard the alert. They deserve a medal.

How does such thing happen when they have such a BIG
space to go under it & after ALL these yrs have never hit it B-4??
Something tells me this was intentional cause of when it
happened & another thing I would like to know is HOW
are people going to get to the other side without the bridge??

They have alternative tunnels people can use..lucky for them..but there will be an impact in terms of the traffic.

@2ndchances24 It will be an issue for quite some time but other neighboring ports like in Virginia, and likely Wilmington will take up some of the slack. We will just have to hope for the best.

@snowy22315 it's going to take them YRS to get it back up
IF they will get it back up & not only that but look at the
hassle it's going to be for people going to work from a detour.
Not only that but the containers on the ship, how's that going
to be taken care of without raising the cost on the people who
depend on what's IN them all?? that's going to be a BIG
impact on the people around the region that depend on the
ships & the bridge no matter how you look at it.

Yes, I originally thought it hit during a rush hour time, but apparently it was 1:30 AM..so that is a blessing.

Yes, it may not be as bad as originally feared. I read 20 missing, but the report I just saw said 7. So that is not nearly as bad as it could have been. We will see though how it unfolds. Yes, me too about those affected.
