UPDATED AGAIN Buying a House at 68

Finally! I got my social security verification letter yesterday. A week too late for the grant I was hoping for, and a week too late to get the house I wanted. Not God's choice for me. Starting from scratch with a new loan application, and found out that I can actually look at higher priced homes than what I was looking at, which is good because they will most likely be in better shape. This loan application process is 4 months, so it will be around August before I know anything. No gardening this year. My garden plants are at a good place for now, thankfully.

Good luck. Can I ask why at your age you would want to take on buying a house, How about renting?

Why not? I am already renting. There is nothing wrong with buying a house at my age or even older. Just heard about a married couple who bought a house in their 80s. Once I get out of this apartment which I currently rent, I do not plan on ever ever ever renting again! Too many rules. Too many can't do this or can't do that. No freedom. Pain in the a$$ life.

@RasmaSandra Gardening is another reason I want my own property. I can have a garden and landscape my place however I choose to. I had my own small garden here since the spring of 2020, but now our new owners will not allow us to keep our gardens. I got all my garden decor and plants out now. A friend is keeping everything until I have my own place. I have had gardens off and on most of my life since earliest childhood when I would help my grandfather with his garden.

@capirani Then I wish you all the best of luck in getting the kind of house you want, I know I loved the house I had in Latvia since it had a big garden, We grew potatoes, tomatoes, and cucumbers and strawberries, Good times,

That's a bit of a shame that the letter is just a week too late but, as you say, it could be all for the best. Good luck with finding a new place.

Money isn't the problem. It is all timing. And timing didn't work for me. Now I have 4 months to find a place while this loan is processed. Not much out there in this area right now.

Good luck finding the house you want to buy. I rented for many years and I am very happy that we now own a house.
