When I was a child;my mother would tell me fairy tales every night. My mother is a good story teller. The stories told by her were very interesting and full of good teachings. With her stories she taught me how to live like a good human being. She used to tell me stories from the Ramayan and the Mahabharata and also about our great hero's and freedom fighters. Do you still remember stories told by your mother??

It was my grandmother and grandfather who uses to tell me stories from mythology, heroic tales, folk tales etc. All their grandchildren would sit around them and listen to it. My grandparents stayed with us. So, it was a daily ritual. I loved to listen to some of the stories again and again. I have vivid memories about them.

@arunima25 I understand. You can hardly find an Indian family where parents and grand parents don't tell stories to their siblings.I still remember those stories.I have also prepared a compilation of those stories.

@Shivram59 It's great that you have compiled them. It's a tradition getting lost with urbanization and nuclear families becoming the norm. And the busy lifestyle and extensive invasion of technology. I use those stories in my therapy sessions.

My mother had once read a fairytale written by Shri Avanindranath Thakur who was perhaps the elder brother of Shri Ravindranath Thakur. The story was translated in Hindi. My mother told me this story several time.I remember insisting her to tell the same story again and again.

My grandmother used to tell me stories when I was a child. They were mainly things that had happened to her when she was a child. O so she said. I now doubt it.

@Shivram59 I learned about the Ramayan and the Mahabharata at the university, when I was studying literature. It is a pity that they donĀ“t teach it in my country.
