What is the strangest thing in your medicine cabinet or bathroom pantry closet?

Whenever I start cleaning my bathroom pantry closet it is always a treasure hunt with finding things I didn't remember I had. Let's just say, I am prepared for anything between sniffles and broken bones.. The most interestingthing I have though is iodine tablets which are supposed to counteract nuclear exposure. They are free and encouraged if you live within about 20 miles. of a nuclear plant. The plant is about 5 miles from here. In the event of an emergency..doubt it would offer any real protection, but it adds some comfort. Just thinking I should see if I could get a snakebite kit and something for spider bites. What do you have in your bathroom cabinets or closets that are not the norm?

I think the snakebite kit is the strangest thing in our medicine cabinet. We also have the tablets to purify water and the iodine tablets, we received them after Ukraine/Russia war started.

Water purification tablets would be interesting.. Here though having bottled water at hand like gallon jugs is preferred. You might need them to flush toilets in the event of a power failure. We had to use more than we had available during that big blizzard a couple of years ago

@snowy22315 We never needed the water purification tables, but they were distributed and I put them in the medicine cabinet. We do not drink tap water, I buy bottled water to drink and we always have at least 6 gallons of bottled water at home.

We have bought a snake-bite bandage and are going to put it in the caravan for when we're travelling and camping in out-of-the-way places.

A bandage? How is it different from a regular bandage or sterile patch?

@snowy22315 It's a pressure bandage. There are markings on it and you stretch it out till the markings look like squares. It's just helpful as it lets you know how tight to make the bandage.

Woh - I did not know you lived that close to a nuclear plant!! I have a bag of cacao powder somewhere under the bathroom sink . I was using it as a facial powder alternative at the time . . . but I forgot about it . . . and it's probably still there somewhere .

That is an interesting thing to have. Yes, very close. That is why occasionally we have those mega loud fly overs here.

@much2say Yeah, they are "supposed to" counter the effects of radioactivity.

@snowy22315 And what are you to do with the iodine tablets - ingest them for protection?

The house I live in for the last year, doesnt have bathroom cabinets.. We are planning to add the cabinet but for now we try to keep only the essentials on the sink space. In my medicing cabinet there is possibly something strange but I will have to check what's in there as I can't remember!

I have a bathroom closet that kind of lends itself to collecting medicine and supplements, but smarter people probably keep towels and or sheets in there I have it pretty full for that though.

@snowy22315 It's nice to have some storage in the bathroom. Eveyone usually puts the medicine there right? Since we dont have cabinets there we store the medicine in the coldest room in the house which is the living room. I had them in the kitchen but it gets very warm and humid from cooking.

@besweet They say it is best to store meds in a non humid area, but most are probably still going to store them in the bathroom.

I've never seen those. Probably because there are no nuclear plants where I live. I only have the usual in my medicine cabinet.

We have the iodine tablets too. We have 2 boxes of miscellaneous first aid, etc. things that I ordered when we still had money on our OTC insurance cards. We have no place to put it all! Have a good day.

I have a powder (that my parents gave me), that helps stop bleeding when you cut yourself. I had honestly never heard of such a thing. It's called wound seal.

Sounds interesting, have you ever tried it? A former roomie, not the guy who left/ got kicked out a year and a half ago, but the one before him...he once used some kind of weld or something to suture a cut. One tough..cookie.

well, nothing out of the ordinary except for the fact I have so much of everything. When you stock for this many people, there's just a lot of stuff. I buy in bulk, so boxes of D/O,then some of the kids like solid, while others the gel, boxes of tooth paste, dental floss, and tooth brushes. extra combs and brushes because they lose them. I wish I'd made a larger closest in the bathroom just for housing so much stuff.

Since the iodine is in tablet form would you have to dissolve it first? I've never heard of such a thing. There's three plants in Michigan but I've no idea where they are not am I worried about them. I don't have anything like that. I have a couple of mirrors, a bulb syringe and mostly stuff I should get rid of. I cleaned out our several years ago and should do it again once day.

@snowy22315 I think there was one near here years back but it's now a gas-electricity powered plant.
