I told her I would tell the story

Linda mentioned that her garage door opener is not working correctly. I have never personally had one.
Something we had a few years back, at our old house,in our upstairs bedroom was a lamp plugged into a remote control device. We kept the device on a bedside table.
It worked really well.
We lived on Main Street. There were lots of businesses in our town that worked round the clock. Lots of employees of those businesses drove up and down that street.
We moved our pole lamp from one side of the room to the other and we started having a problem. It started coming on "spontaneously" in the middle of the night.
The light would wake us both up. I did eventually notice that the same bass line would be blasting down the road every time the light came on. Aha!! it was someone nearby coming home and using their garage door opener. Their car stereo gave them away. The remote was on the same frequency as our little remote.
We moved the lamp back to its previous location and the problem was solved. It was away from the four big windows around the room.
Do you suppose that is how rooms or houses get the reputation of being haunted?

It was very startling to be awakened a bit after midnight every night.

@GardenGerty We have a lamp like that too, I can't imagine what we would think if that happened!

Some kind of electrical malfunction. Maybe not in all cases but it has actually happened at least twice to me in my lifetime.

It could be a plot for a sit com.

@GardenGerty I think real-life situations like this make great plots for stories.

With all of our electrical and wireless things being added to our lives I think it will happen more often.

@GardenGerty It reminds me of the issue where people on cordless phones could hear each other over the baby monitors back in the late 80's.

It is quite likely. I have another related "story" I will tell later.

That would be strange. That would not explain the houses that don't have those lamps

Oh, but I have another instance of "something else" that happened about twenty years or so before. It will be another post. I think glitches in wiring explain a lot, but not necessarily everything.

It could be that it might make houses appear haunted.

I have had some other things happen. Some with explanations and some without.

I know it does not account for spooky stories from pre electrical days, but faulty wiring does play into many malfunctions. I have not found one in this house yet.

Very strange. That would have freaked me out! Still don't know what to do about the garage door opener. Going to have to call someone to come out. Have a good weekend.
