Have You Ever Seen a Shower Head Hanging From the Ceiling? Updated with Photo

Looking at a house online today, I saw a nice one, but the bathroom may be the thing that ends the deal for me. First of all, they have a beautiful bathroom, however, their tub is very small, kind of a rounded corner triangle tub. And the showerhead is hanging from a rod in the ceiling. Why is this a deal breaker for me? I have to use a shower chair and a handheld shower. This ceiling showerhead is so high up that even if someone gets up there to connect a hose and handheld showerhead, the tub itself is probably too small to fit my shower chair and me. Other things that might be things I can work with, removing the tub and surround to install a regular size rectangular tub and show is probably way too expensive. I do not understand the shower from the ceiling instead of the wall. Have you ever seen something like this?

Yes, I have seen this. Ceiling mounted showers have larger shower heads. This allows the water to disperse over a wider area and envelope your whole body more evenly. It seems they are popular in new built houses.

I have seen them higher up but still coming out of the wall instead of the ceiling. Personally, I don't like that wider spray. Since the beginnings of shower hoses, I have always preferred those, especially with the options of different types of sprays with the showerhead, including the massage options. I like being able to move the showerhead around instead of it being stuck in one place. I never feel totally clean in a shower anyway. So if I am stuck having to use a shower, I prefer a shower hose. I prefer bubble baths and the long soaks. This small triangular tub would not even be comfortable for any kind of bath except for bathing a child.

@capirani Both my husband and I prefer bubble baths and to soak for quite a long time. We use the shower hose to rinse when we get out from the bath tub.

Also, for me, I prefer a strong water pressure to make sure I am fully rinsed off, especially to make sure shampoo, conditioner, etc. would be thoroughly rinsed from my hair. These wide sprays don't rinse hair well. The best for that is a handheld spray.

Sorry that it's a deal breaker. Does it look good hanging from the ceiling.? Some people go for aesthetics and don't take into consideration the practical use.

I think it looks bad. But that is my opinion. At the lowest, it is still higher than the shower curtain so I think it would spray outside on the floor at least a little. It just looks really odd especially when the rest of the bathroom is really nice looking.

I just updated and added a photo. You can see that the actual showerhead is higher up than the shower curtain and unreachable for adjusting style of spray. This would seem to make the walls above the tub surround wet as well as the floor outside the shower curtain.

Also, this tub will require me to sit on my shower chair backwards if I want to face the water control and those little shelves. To be safe, I would have to sit facing outward so that getting in and out of the tub is safe. But then I would be unable to reach anything.

I think I have seen them. Making it a walk in shower might not be too expensive.

I was thinking about one of those walk-ins that are like walk-in Jacuzzi's with the jets. That would be nice. Or some kind of jet type tub shower combo. That would be way too expensive, I think. I really just want a regular bathtub and shower because I like tubs.

I have seen something a bit similar. It certainly doesn't look as though the tub would take a shower chair.

Yes I've seen the ceiling shower heads. They have all sorts of settings, like a gentle rain, etc. Sounds like not a great option for some though. And I suppose we should not be turning our showers into extra pleasant experiences that encourage us to use more water!

This one is way too high up to be able to change settings. "They," whoever "they" are, say that showers use less water than baths. I do not agree with that statement. When I shower, I plug the drain so I can at least get my feet and lower legs a good soak. But that shows me how much water I use for the shower. I usually end up draining the tub before I finish rinsing. The tub water is the same, or more when I do this than it would be if I were taking a bath. I think "they" forget about the mass of the body displacing the water so that it looks like more water in the tub than it really is. Showers to me are not that pleasant. Never have been, no matter how nice the showerhead.

I did not say it won't work. The tub has to be measured. I am sure the shower pipe can be moved to the wall.
