Didn’t expect this

I went to Whole Foods Market on Saturday and one of the things I bought were jewel yams. Looking at the receipt after checking out I noticed that they were scanned at $2.69 per pound instead of $2.49 per pound. To make sure I wasn’t wrong I went back to the produce department to double check the price. It was indeed the $2.49 one. I wasn’t going to let it slide so went to customer service to get a price adjustment. I told the lady what happened. Instead of giving me back the price difference she gave me a full refund and handed me back the yams. The receipt said the reason for the refund was “changed mind/I didn’t take this.” Of course I wanted this item and didn’t change my mind. I was surprised that this happened. For one, she didn’t even go to the produce department to see if the price I told her was actually the correct price. She just took my word for it. And then she gave me a full refund instead of a price adjustment. Was she too lazy to do it, didn’t know how to do it, or is this their policy to give a full refund and let the customer actually keep the item if they make a mistake during checkout? I think this happened to me before some years back, except it was with bananas.

Yes. She gave it to me. My goal wasn’t to return the item but simply to get a price adjustment. Why she gave me a full refund I have no idea.

There isn't one close to me. I have to go to Manhattan or Brooklyn to shop in one.

@RebeccasFarm if I spot an error on the receipt when I get home it is definitely not worth it to go back to the store.

No. The lady gave them back to me. She didn't say to put the yams back where I got them, or to go buy them again, so I put them in my shopping bag and left.

I'm not really surprised by this. Maybe she knew the price of the yams.

It seemed like she didn’t really care about it and perhaps didn’t even wanna be there.

It was probably just easier to do it that way. Have a good day.

I guess so. However, if that’s done often the store loses money.
