Would it tick you off if you learned that political candidates were using your donations for their own personal expenses?

I just read an article suggesting that a certain politician is funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, of campaign contributions to his own businesses and personal residences. Some political analysts argue that this kind of thing makes Americans suspicious of the political system here. Would you be ticked off if you contributed to someone's campaign fund and learned that your hard-earned dollars were not going into getting your favorite politicians elected, but rather contributing to their lavish lifestyle, including multiple properties, jet airplanes, and the like? I admit that I would. I won't name names, as I want to be non-partisan. But here is the article I just read.

I would be incredibly ticked off. Some of our pollies try this but once the press gets an inkling of such going on, they are usually ousted from their party - as they should be.

It appears to be legal here, within limits. I wonder if the "Johnny does it too" defense applies here.

I am glad that "funding a campaign" (or a politician) is not acceptable and considered "corruption" here in Europe. Why should we finance their campaign? They are there to explain us what they intend to do for our country if they are elected. So much wasted money to go around like a circus! There are the TVs to speak now, no need to waste money.

@TheHorse It is. The former president Nicolas Sarkozy was found guilty of illegal campaign financing for his 2012 re-election. The court allowed him to serve one year sentence at home by wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet.

@LadyDuck I wonder if Trump will be allowed to serve his time at home.

Trump supporters are weird anything to deny liberals. It defeats the purpose after a while. Why guy lit himself on fire. He thought both Biden and Trump were the ones that started the coup.

The politician discussed in the article seems to have no shame.

@crossbones27 Some people should not be parents. And not just poor people.

He has been doing that and they keep donating. I would be pissed. I never give as you don't know where it's all going

@wolfgirl569 I was shocked by the corruption I saw in Oakland when I worked for "good causes" there.

@LindaOHio It is Sunday morning. I am listening to my sacred music on the FM radio. What I am hearing now sounds like Bach. My favorite composer.

Most people would be ticked off but not MAGA. They see it as an honor to support a pretend billionaire who hates them.

@TheHorse I have seen signs of that, too, but, so far, not enough to matter.

It is odd. But I sense that some MAGA people are waking up.

This is precisely why I never donate funds to a political campaign. Besides, almost every politician these days is independently wealthy, so let them fund their own campaign.

@TheHorse I think they would have to be independently wealthy at the national level just to be able to afford all the media and traveling and promotion that is necessary to remain in the spotlight.

It does appear that many (but not all) politicians are independently wealthy.
