How did you know you were loved and were you sure of that love?

Either from parent, from child. Among siblings, among girlfriend and boyfriend, among boyfriends, among girlfriends. Between partners, etc. Did they tell you that they love you, was it expressed by words more or deeds more or equally? Can you say for those people they loved me, i was loved? I am curious about this topic.

I don't know if someone loves me or not. I don't know what to think.

@dya80dya Aww. I think you need to love yourself first, in order to notice when others love you. It's difficult to accept love otherwise, even when it's there. And maybe you also have to define what love is for you, not everyone shares the same view as it's a quite abstract concept.

Love is more than just words. Words are cheap. Love is defined by deeds or actions. Standing in the rain, waiting for a date to show. Sitting at the bedside when someone you love is poorly, or worse, dying. Giving someone your last rolo. That’s love!

Words of affirmation aren't my forte, my previous relationship helped me improve that "skill" a little bit. Still, not my favorite way of expressing love. I'm more physical, so I guess that's the language of love that was used the most in my family: hugs, pats, kisses on the forehead. Quality time is another, having a good time together. If someone wants to spend time with me, it means they love me to some extent... I guess. Not a huge fan of gifts unless they match my wants and needs perfectly.

@sabtraversa Someone once said, or should I say, sung: Love is like oxygen, You get too much you get too high, Not enough and you’re gonna die, Love gets you high

@grenery8 Somehow, there are things about me they respect. My emotions weren't really validated but my thoughts often were. According to them I'm smart but overly sensitive, sometimes overly insensitive too when I give practical advice instead of emotional support. That's what comes natural to me, I wonder why. But I've been learning how to be emotionally supportive too.

I do not remember that my parents ever told me that they loved me, but what they did not express by words they did with their gestures and behaviour. My husband often tells me that he loves me.

wow, i never thought that a swiss man could be romantic glad for you. so you never asked for additional affirmation from your parents? mine parents also never told me those words, maybe later, sometimes there were deeds but there were also some situations that all fall down in the water.

@grenery8 My husband is NOT Swiss, he is Italian. I did not need to ask to my parents, my Dad was so much attached to me, I remember he cried at my wedding.

@grenery8 I know they love me when their faces glow when I arrive;when I see a sweet;friendly smile on their lips and when they insist me to stay longer in their company.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. i think i heard this quote somewhere. yes, it gets harder later. are expectations at fault or lack of respect. i am not sure either.

The love between people changes from person to person and how they show it can be from words, actions, or services. Every person has a love language. So how you would see love and how you give love to someone might be different than your partner, siblings, or children. Me I see love as an act of service you do something for me without me asking, and a gift and gift for me doesn't mean it has to be expensive it can be something as little as a card making a cup of coffee, or cooking a meal.

is it always unconditional love and can you love that person again if they let you down?
