Off to visit an Israeli friend this evening.

I taught littlies with my friend Anna at a synagogue-affiliated preschool in Berkeley CA for several years. We have stayed friends and get together a few times a year here in the Bay Area, usually at her house. I am also friendly with her husband and two daughters. Both girls were my "students" when I worked at the synagogue. Anna is from Israel, but has lived in the US for perhaps 15 years. I believe her hubby is originally from Israel as well. The girls speak both English and Hebrew at home. I wonder where our conversations will go this evening. Trump is on trial. Israel is at war. She still works with littlies, but I work with older kids and adults right now. We often imbibe, each in our own ways, and discuss some pretty philosophical things. I like that she "speaks her mind." Do you have friends whose backgrounds are different from your own? Away from MyLot, I mean. Photo is of the Golden Gate Bridge from the Berkeley Hills, where Anna now lives.

What kind of smack does he talk? I only "talk smack" with good friends. And my tongue is at least partially in my cheek.

Yes, we have friends of other nationalities, their background is different, but we always have very pleasant conversations when we meet.

@TheHorse I think that we can discuss almost everything without getting aggressive or going into argument. The important is NOT to want to impose our ideas and believes, but listen to the others, understand and share ours own.

To me that means there are underlying similarities that transcend culture.

Most of my friends are not a lot different. Only in religious or political beliefs. But my area doesn't have a lot of different people in it

Can your friends avoid having tension due to differences in political or religious beliefs? I guess my friends are diverse in those two ways as well.

Vince has 'robust' discussions with some of his friends but most of our friends have similar background/culture to ourselves.

How do you define "robust"?

@TheHorse They 'speak their minds' too and might have very different opinions but still end up as friends.

Here in eastern rural NC, there aren't many other nationalities. A few Democrats, but I try not to hold it against them, lol. Enjoy your visit with your friend.

My friends came from the same background as I did. We've been friends for over 50-60 years. Lovely photo. Have a good weekend.

I have some friends I've known for half a century. I still consider them to be among my best friends.
