Book Review: If Not For You by Debbie Macomber

This book was one of the best books I have ever read! If you want to read a clean romance then this is your book! Beth is the main character of the book. She grew up in Chicago, but her mother, Ellie, was so overbearing that Beth felt as if Ellie was metaphorically smothering her. Such as Ellie chose who she dated. Eventually, Beth got up the nerve and moved to Portland Oregon to live near her Aunt Sunshine, a famous artist who I got the impression was more of a free spirit. Beth is a music teacher and became friends with Nichole who invites her to dinner trying to fix her up with her husband's best friend, Sam. Sam and Beth are two different people and agree they are not anywhere like each other but then they start spending all their time together. on the way home from dinner at Nichole's house Sam sees Beth get in a serious car accident. He stops his truck, runs over to her car, calls 911 then is there for her. Then visits her at the hospital and rehabilitation center she goes to. The hospital scenes were worthy of tears with how sweetly Sam treated her Eventually, Sam tells Beth she can date other men as they are too different, I won't tell you how that part of the relationship turns out Beth's mother, Ellie, talks down to Sam at Thanksgiving because she doesn't think he is good enough for Beth. After all, he was a mechanic with long hair. Beth couldn't care less that he was a mechanic with long hair. She saw Sam as the loving guy he was. Beth wasn't a snob as Ellie was Then Beth wants to bring happiness to those she loves. She finds the man her Aunt Sunshine loved once and has them meet for dinner. How does that turn out? read the book! Then Sam had told Beth he had a daughter his girlfriend never let him see that he loved. Beth found her through another music teacher friend and took him to a piano recital where Sam's daughter was performing thinking he would love it. He was furious and the relationship deeply suffered. This book had me crying, at times wanting to scream at a character, I also got goosebumps during the heartwarming scenes and was cheering other times for things characters said and did. I had a lot of emotion throughout the book Overall it was a delightful book! A 61/2 star. in my Reading Journal, 6 stars is one of the best books of the year. Then 6 1/2 stars I gave If Not For You means it is one of the best books I ever read! Please read this book, you won't be sorry!

It sounds worthy of a TV movie.

Now that you mention it, it would be a delightful Hallmark movie. I honestly don't know it could already be a movie.

I just looked it up. It WAS made into a movie called This Matter of Marriage. I honestly had no idea as I seldom watch movies.

Definitely sounds like a book I would enjoy. I was looking forward to your review and I put this on my list. I've read some Debbie Maccomber books but not recently. 6 1/2 stars is a big wow for your scoring.

Great you want to read this book! It is worth reading! I recently rediscovered Debbie Macomber and try to get a book by her every time I go to the library. Try Must Love Flowers by Debbie Macomber if you haven't already. That was just as good. She doesn't know how not to write the best books ever. She is my favorite author now
