The new mom in the neighborhood (Callie the Calico) didn’t show up this morning. I seriously doubt her kittens are taking her out for lunch. I’m enjoying lunch at Chuy’s before they get busy. They’re usually busy on Sunday after church, but this is also Mother’s Day. Here’s something for all of you moms who want to get up and dance: a great song that’s now 50 years old! Nothing From Nothing - Billy Preston AFRO SHEEN! Back in the 70s, it was Roberta Flack and Billy Preston with hands down, the best afros in music. Oh, and their music was pretty good, too. While Roberta’s “big hits” were more ballads, Preston was funking up the joint. The “Fifth Beatle” (John Lennon actually wanted to make him a member of the band!), Preston played on their albums while forging his own career and doing session work on albums by acts as diverse as The Rolling Stones and Barbra Streisand. And here’s your daily dose of trivia: this song has the distinction of being the first ever musical performance by a guest on Saturday Night Live. You gotta have something, and we can have another boogie session with this great tune.
