Bring a sporting event to Louisville and we will celebrate with rain. My brother said it figured that it was raining because he had tickets to watch the PGA Championship practice rounds today. I’ll get some housework done after my free meal (buy six, get one free…I get three free meals a month here ), but for now, it’s get in the time machine and go back 50 years. A Pirate Looks At 40 - Jimmy Buffett It’s hard to believe we don’t have Buffett anymore. But then when you consider that this song is now half a century old, it’s understandable that our post-WW2 babies are starting to leave us in sadly increasing numbers. (Saxophone great David Sanborn passed away Sunday, adding one more to the list. ) This song deals with being born at the wrong time, which a lot of us sometimes feel like. Brian Wilson wrote “I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times,” and that’s the sentiment here…just as eloquently. The Parrotheads, however, wouldn’t trade their time for any. Like that meme said: all of these years of history, and you got to live at the same time as Jimmy Buffett. A Pirate Looks At 40 Written by Jimmy Buffett Recorded by Jimmy Buffett From A1A, 1974 I’m down to rock bottom again:

That's a great Buffet tune. Looking at getting older slowing down and changing your ways. Some great storytelling with that one! And I thought it was about Buffet not one of his good friends!

He was, what, 27 when he wrote this. Not that I don’t think Buffett had the creativity to envision life as “an over-40 victim of fate,” but I didn’t see this as that autobiographical. Maybe, though, the Jamaican police DID take the “I’ve done a bit of smuggling” too literally when they shot at Buffett’s plane.

The sentiment of feeling like you were born at the wrong time is something many can relate to, but as you mentioned, there's a special appreciation for living in the same era as Jimmy Buffett. The Parrotheads certainly wouldn't trade their memories and experiences for anything else.
