Kitty Games

Our black cat Alex is a little imp. He loves to play with small objects that belong to us. He has plenty of cat toys to play with and a sister cat to wrestle around with but he wants to play with our toys. Combs, pens, hair pins, and other easily manipulated things are the toys he likes best. Right now, my green comb is missing. I left it on a table. It is in the house, but he won't tell me where. I found my friend's mascara in my room. Worse yet, my friend laid her earpiece on the desk and he whisked it away. She works on the phone but that does not matter to Alex. He finds great joy in these little games. Sometimes I think he is laughing at us. What can we do with this naughty cat except to love him anyway?

When a cat wants to play with something it's very hard to convince the cat to drop and do something different.

Cats pretty much do whatever they want.

@akalinus They are bossy animals, they are lucky to be cute.

@LadyDuck Yeah, otherwise, people might not tolerate them. Their cuteness and antics make us love them more.

We do love him but some days... Today, he is attacking plants. He likes the dangling leaves and there are shoots and green things on the floor now. I keep picking them up and trashing them. He thinks he is our gardener.

@LindaOHio Some days I sweep up leaves and assorted green stuff from his gardening activities. Why can't he just be boring?

We have cat toys for Chilly, but his favorite toy happens to be the one thing he shouldn't have. I still let him have at it anyway while watching.

What thing is that? If it is dangerous for him, perhaps you can substitute something else for it.

@akalinus If it were dangerous I wouldn't let him have it. No. He likes the cardboard wrapping Apple uses on their power cords.

@kaylachan You could let him play with it when he is especially good, like a reward or something. He probably likes the noise it makes when he bats it around.

My cats no longer play with their toys and don't use their cat tree, Mostly Freddie and Tish are independent and do their thing while I do mine on my PC, Tish was very naughty this morning she jumped up on the top of the armchair near my PC and then leapt on my keyboard and ran across and then across my laptop keyboard to get to a chair behind the PCs. I am glad she did not do too much damage but I was so angry at her, Right now I must go see what Freddie is up to he has started to raise his voice

Tish is secretly writing the great American novel and does not want you to know. I made that up but know it is true.

@RasmaSandra Thanks, let me know when his novel hits Amazon. You should put pawprints on the cover with a photo of him sitting on your laptop.

I guess all you can do is put away important stuff. Our cat loved small things too. She particularly liked pegs and pen tops.

We are much more vigilant about putting things away but sometimes things get left out. What do you mean by pegs?

@JudyEv Thank you. I thought of that after I commented but had to do other things and did not come back to comment.

The two stray cats are still with my sister. They play with anything they see around them.I don't let them enter in my bedroom. There are books and my notebooks on the shelf. The kittens would spoil them all if I let them in.

You are wise to keep them away from important things. They don't care if something is essential or if is a possible toy for them.

@akalinus The doors of my bedroom are always shut.I have asked my sister strictly not to open them and not to let the kittens in.

We found the earpiece but not my comb. If we leave a 'toy' out on a table or counter, it will be gone soon.

That is so funny. I've never had a cat quite like Alex.

I can't find my things sometimes. I have the same problem. But they play when I am not there. And I can't find my things.

We find things eventually. I never know where. He goes under my bed a lot. I need to see if any of our stuff is under there. I am afraid if I get on the floor to look, I might not be able to stand up again.
