Stalking 101

After seeing "Baby Reindeer" I became curious about stalkers. I have seen them in many docs, movies, and in the news but didn't fully understand them. So I did some research. The definition of stalking is defined as the repeated harassing, tracking, or following of a given person. An Australian psychiatrist, Paul Mullen, studied the ongoing behavior of 145 diagnosed stalkers. Out of this number, 115 were men and 30 were women. Out of this analysis, he was able to identify five types of stalkers. The Rejected Stalker-- One who pursues the victim after a breakup or rejection usually with a former partner or spouse. The Intimacy-Seeking Stalker-- A stalker who wants a romantic relationship with the victim who is often a stranger or a celebrity. The Incompetent Stalker-- Poor social skills and a lack of understanding of social skills. They may be misguided into thinking this pursuit could lead to an intimate relationship. The Resentful Stalker-- A stalker who wants to frighten or harm the victim, often because of a perceived injustice or grudge. The Predatory Stalker-- One who lacks social skills and will ignore the victim's boundaries, many times a coworker or acquaintance. It's rather sad that these people are so into their own psyches. Not friendly types at all. Right in there with Psychopaths. They don't see their victims as true human beings. It's like they are their dolls. Wacky stuff boys and girls.
