Good Tuesday morning! It’s a lovely day here, and they’re telling us to enjoy it because it’s about to get HOT. I’m just warming up with these great songs from 1964. For today’s look back 60 years in the world of music, we’ll be going back to country, which means “Linda? NO!!!!!!!!!!”
The singer’s name alone should give that fact away.
The Race is On - George Jones
Next year I’ll be able to use ol’ Possum for 1955, 1965, 1975, AND 1985. Who’s gonna fill his shoes? NOBODY.
One of his big hits from the 60s, this song compares a heartache to a horse race. It’s brilliant, right down to the punch line in the chorus, “The winner loses on.”
By the way, the guy who wrote this shares a name with the man who wrote “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” but it’s NOT the same person.

Can’t believe the Incognito Bandito never did a George Jones song.
