After I had posted that photo of my mom and her friends, A year later after my dad had died this is what mom and I looked like. You can see that the sorrow has done much and we were visiting at a neighbor’s apartment when they took the photo. The smiles were all gone.

A broken heart looks different to different people. One thing that I think about with quite seriousness, is my wedding rings. Should my husband pass before me, I cannot even begin to think about removing those rings. That is the most visible tie that I have to him, when I am out in public they are visible, I wonder how one feels when they take off their rings. I have my mother's wedding and engagement rings here. I cannot bring myself to wear them, although I am wearing a ring today that my Dad bought her for Christmas one year. I remember as I was shopping with him for it.

@Juliaacv let's talk wedding rings. My mom took my dad's ring and resized it and for the rest of her life she wore both rings on her right hand ring finger. I have both these rings where I can also still see what was partly engraved in my jewelry box, After I go c'est la vie,,,

@RasmaSandra Rings have so much symbolism and traditionally tell us so much about the giver and the receiver.

@LindaOHio I feel the same as you do but I was faced with that situation and realized I could not afford to shut down. I had the house to consider and I had my cat Sid, So in the end as they say I made it through the rain. But after 7 years it still seems like yesterday,

@RasmaSandra I can't imagine how hard it is for you. My husband will be 83 in August; and I think about him dying every day. It's very stressful.

I know it's painful. But tough times don't last.

@kaylachan I know what you're saying but in my life every summer that comes with memories is tough and now after 7 years it still feels like everything just happened yesterday. For my mom because she was already 55 when dad passed it was scary to face raising me alone plus the first year she was useless and only started revving in the second year,

Widow hood is very painful and so is losing one's parents. We can't smile for long. It takes time to become normal.

@RasmaSandra I am so sorry, losing a father at such a young age wasn't easy for sure.
