Finally Got My Beer Can Chicken

You see, a couple of weeks ago I was going to make a beer can chicken, but it didn't work out. We had been out running some errands, and we were having my mom stay overnight with us. I pulled into the Aldi parking lot. "What are we doing here?" my wife asked. "I have to get a chicken," I told her. She gave me a crazed look. "Wait. You planned on making beer can chicken and you don't even have a chicken? Who does that?" "Me, apparently," I said with a chuckle, and she just shook her head. I went inside and all they had were organic chickens, $4 a pound. Get the hell out of here, I thought. I returned to the truck with no chicken and said I'd check the other Aldi up the street. Just organic chickens there too, so that's when I just picked up a pack of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, marinated those, and cooked them on the grill instead. Move ahead to Saturday, I'd picked up a chicken to cook when I was out on Thursday. We ran our errands and had mom with us. Around 4pm we dropped mom off (she lives with my sister) and the fam was out by their pool. That turned out to be a four beer impromptu visit—and there went my beer can chicken again. When I got home, I just threw some Stonie's brats on the grill and whipped up a couple of quick sides. Luckily on Sunday we had the day to ourselves. We did some yard work and spent some time in our own pool, and voila! I made my beer can chicken. Luckily it was not a disappointment. Now I plan to remove the rest of the meat from the carcass today and I will make soup with some of the meat and of course the carcass.

I'm glad you finally cooked and enjoy your chicken. I can never find decent chicken at Aldi.

@porwest Yes, organic is for fools to part with their money. I know farmers and over-the-road truck drivers. They are who told me.

Usually I find chicken, at least whole chickens, are cheaper at Walmart. Other chicken parts I usually get at Ruler. But Aldi was closer, and I thought they'd have had regular chickens, not just organic.

@Chellezhere You and I don't disagree there at all. Organic is for fools to part with their money. I do like rotisserie chickens, but I hardly ever buy one.

It looks tasty, but the way the bird looks in the picture it looks like it's sitting on the toilet...That would have been the first thought in my twisted mind of course. I'd give it a try but I am not one for cleaning the oven and it states in our lease that we can't have a bbq. Glad you weren't disappointed with the chicken...I did some thighs and legs that I have in the fridge to grab and heat and eat. They turned out good and when I get tired of that I can crock pot them down for the meat and then add a ton of noodles and veggies for easy meals.
