We haven't had a BLT in a few weeks. When I was in Walmart I looked at their Wright Bacon Applewood, but they wanted over $10. Found some at Piggly Wiggly for $7.80. BUT..glad I did not need Milk..a Half Gallon there was $2.99+10%. Walmart went up on their milk, but still under $2. I am thinking that since they remodeled the Walmart..they went up on prices to pay for that remodel...I mean I keep hearing from the MSM that prices are going down, but not at Walmart a lot of their items are going UP, and I see more and more Great Value products and no Brand Name products. Checked the Tea selection, and no Lipton Tea...only Great Value and Luziana tea. Like I said..I am a grocery store's nightmare..I pay attention to the prices and what they are stocking...and I know the prices of all the things I buy on a regular basis at each store I shop at.

I only ever buy bacon on sale and the average price I pay on sale is about $4 a pound. When I see a sale, I buy three or more packages and freeze them so I have them handy when I want something with bacon. As for BLTs, I have not had one in years, but I may change that very soon.

@Ghostlady I used to bake them on a baking sheet (with sides of course, to hold the grease). Now I use that Gotham Steel Bacon Bonanza thing which actually works perfectly and I get some really good, clean grease to jar for cooking with later.

@porwest I have one of those, but found the center bacon was never crispy at all. And with Thick bacon, it burned the outside slices before the rest was done. We only use like 6 pieces for a sandwich, but I cook as many as either pan will hold so I have cooked bacon for something else. Ccn't say the racks I use are any easier to clean, and with foil underneath the racks, I, too, have clean bacon grease. BUT, I have not tried to use the bacon maker pan on 350° as the directions that came with it say 400. With the rack set up I bake at 350 for 35 min. Where the bacon maker at 400 only took 20-25 min.

I always buy the thick sliced bacon and bake it in the oven. I have 2 cooling racks that fit perfectly in a cookie pan..holds about 8-10 slices depending how wide the strips are.

I don't think I'd know the prices of anything but we tend to buy specials when we can.

I guess I pay attention because I have nothing else to do since retiring. Keeps my mind sharp. LOL

@Ghostlady Like I told my wife the other day. You HAVE to know your prices so you know what's a good deal or what isn't. Not knowing your prices is a fantastic way to toss your money into the garbage can. lol

It takes quite a bit to shop smart these days. Have a safe and happy 4th.
