She saw the invention of many ground breaking technologies, and saw humanity make significant strides in various fields. She remained mentally sharp and physically active for most of her life. She attributed her longevity to a simple lifestyle which included a Mediterranean diet of olive oil, port wine and chocolate. She also remained active practicing fencing until the age of 85 and regularly playing tennis until her early 110s.
