FINALLY! A respite from the country music!
I continue the look at my ten all-time favorite musicians from Texas with someone who probably surprises you because he’s this low on the list. Yeah, I know. But wait until you see the other four, and you’ll understand. Here’s today’s artist.
#5: Don Henley
See you tomorrow.
Yes, of course Henley will be here. He was responsible for a couple of stops on my Texas road trip this past winter: Linden, where he was raised; and Gilmer, where he was born.
Ooh, that voice. If Glenn Frey was the “brains” of the Eagles, then Don Henley and that marvelous voice of his were the soul.
I’m so glad I got to see the Eagles, and Henley solo, in the days before you had to put a mortgage on your house to buy the tickets.
Of course, today it’s not “the Eagles,” it’s “Don Henley and Friends,” so why even bother.
But Henley’s legacy is sealed, and was sealed a long time ago.
Don Henley
Born Donald Hugh Henley
July 22, 1947, Gilmer (age 77)
HALLS OF FAME: Rock and Roll (with the Eagles), Songwriters
Here’s a great solo song from Henley’s career, “Not Enough Love in the World”:

I'm reading a biography about Stevie Nicks and she had a fling with Don Henley.

The story goes that the Fleetwood Mac song “Sara” was about the baby she aborted after she became pregnant by Don.

Fortunately for future Eagles fans Henley did not go the way of Pure twangy Country. Otherwise, we would have missed out on some great Country Rock, Soft Rock, Rock and Pop collaborations with Glenn.

Some pretty raw rock (such as “I Will Not Go Quietly”) too!
