Tania just had to spend a lot of money in her car.

Tania is living now in a house that I call "The little House on the Praire". It is in the outskirts of Pucón a beautiful placa near the villarrica volcano and the Villarrica lake. Both are quite impressive and the air is clear. I remember that, when I went to see Tania during Christmas, I could see the smoke coming from the volcano from my window. Pucón is a place so beautiful that many tourists skip Santiago and go directly to where the volcano is. Nearby there are hot springs if you want to soak in warm water. But there is always a but. And the place where Tania lives is infested with mice. I´m not sure of the size of them. But they get into the house and in winter they make their homes inside her car to be warmer. And they eat cables whenever they find them. That can be very dangerous if they eat away the brake cables. She just discovered a rat poison but she is going to get a cat too. I told her that she should get a sort of feral cat. A tiny cat that would be at home all day, pampered and with too much food would not do. The last cat she had had even forgotten to walk as he was in their arms all day. Meanwhile, now the spent money in cleaning the car and replacing the eaten cables. I DO NOT like mice, rats or the like

Rodents chew all day, every day. That's just what they do and they don't care what they chomp on. She needs a cat whose mother taught it to hunt. Otherwise, they just play with the mice. Tell her to set the poison so that the cats cannot get it. I feel so sorry for her. I never knew that mice liked volcanoes.

The Pucón mice live in the countryside. They don´t like volcanoes.

@marguicha I think you are right. Where I lived before, there were fields all around. There were mice, opossums, and many other kinds of animals. The mice were unreal and they were a constant fight to keep them away from our house. I am sure several feral cats in the area helped keep the population down. Maybe Tania could adopt a couple of cats to help with the problem.

@akalinus That´s what she wants. But I told her that she can´t spend her day pampering and feeding the cat or it won´t work.

She should get one or the other. Get poison or a cat but not both.

@marguicha .......Cats are invaluable. Poison is nasty stuff. Doesn't just kill rodents.

We had mice and a rat, at one rental unit in Bay City. I was so frightened! Cars cost a lot of money, to keep them serviced.

If the rats chew the brakes it could be very dangerous.

We get mice in the house every year during the winter. I hate them. They pee and poop everywhere. Have a good day.

I loathe mice and roaches. I prefer spiders to them.

@LindaOHio This year I had ants in summer. I had not had them inside the house for many years.

I hate mice. They are so disgusting and they leave trails of little feces everywhere. Years ago when I lived in an older farm house I had a problem with harvest season, they wanted inside as the crops were harvested. I finally gave up and had an exterminator come to figure out their entry point, which was around a water pipe. Such a tiny little spot but they got in. Once that was taken care of, I did not have another mouse. I refuse to live in a house with mice! I hope she can get rid of them very soon!

My first house had one tiny mouse that drove me crazy. I could not leave a pot with no lid. It was terrible.

@marguicha It's hard for me to realize that some people don't seem to mind them. Ugh...filthy things.

i think any cat will do but, yes, feral cats must be better hunters. i wish her luck with that.

If I was sure that she has small mice, I would not worry. But she lives in the outskirts of the town so maybe she has big country mice.

A cat would help. Just don't feed it all day. A couple of times a day is enough

Sounds like a lovely place to live but not the rodents, I suggest a very large cat who loves people but hates rodents,

The question is how do you ask a cat about its preferences?
