You really had a doubt? Come on!!!! I am NOT that unpredictable. The month closes on my favorite musicians from Texas with the obvious choice. I mean, when I say this guy is my favorite, I mean it. One more time, here’s the topper of this — and many other — countdown. #1: Jim Reeves Hey, Linda? You can actually listen to this one! This is a significant day, too. Sixty years ago today — July 31, 1964 — Jim Reeves was flying back to Nashville from looking at property in Arkansas. He ran into a thunderstorm. The tower told him to turn right to avoid the storm, but he ignored that and turned left to follow an “easy” landmark to take him to the airport. It was raining so hard that he couldn’t see the road; and, in the rain, he became spatially disoriented and flew the plane into a clump of trees. His widow said that Reeves didn’t believe in life insurance. She said he once pointed to a large collection of demo tapes and said, “There’s your life insurance.” Morbid, but true. Reeves had a total of eleven #1 songs. Six of them were posthumous hits. That voice. Oh, that voice. Thanks for reading. Jim Reeves Born James Travis Reeves August 20, 1923, Gallloway Died July 31, 1964, Nashville (plane crash) (age 40) HALLS OF FAME: Country Music, Texas Country Music As I said, this one won’t give Linda a migraine. “Crying Is My Favorite Mood” is jazzy and bluesy, and Reeves wrote this one himself:

A great voice but not as good as Roy Orbison IMO. Dying at such a young age, even though he always appeared much older on clips I’ve watched. I remember reading years ago, that a woman (over here I thought?) had kicked her husband out and turned her bedroom into a shrine to Jim Reeves, declaring her love for him. It wasn’t you was it? I’ll have to see if I can find the story and give you the link.

@FourWalls I think that’s the person. I can’t find a reference but it sounds like the same woman to me. We are about the same age. It was my mother who like Jim Reeves and had some of his records. And no, she wasn’t THAT woman either.

That's a good one. And you can't let the tower tell you what to do. Sure, you might crash and die but you lose all your independence to what amounts to a backseat driver.

Yep. Another case of a man not asking for directions, or not listening because he got directions that he didn’t ask for.
