I worked on my book this morning!

Since my injury, I have not been in the mood to work on my book. You might say I've been suffering from a bit of depression. Have you ever been depressed? One of the symptoms of depression is "lowered response initiation." In day-to-day English, that means "you don't do sh*t." But this morning, I went to my chapter about a kid I call my "cursing kid" and wrote several paragraphs. Tell @Just4Him to put away the prod. I am writing about a dialogue he and I had in my truck on our way to hiking. It is when I introduced the idea of "cursing time" to him. We would have a special time when he could curse as much as he wanted. And when that time ended, we would talk in understatement, like the British. For the record, it worked. He gained control of his cursing behavior. I realized I work only until 5 PM today. I am going to teach my lessons at Guitar Center and head to the pool afterward. That way, I won't have to worry about time. Have you had a "productive day"? Have you ever experienced "lowered response initiation"? Warning: In a comment, or a future post, I might mention "anhedonia," another fancy term for something many of us have experienced at some point in our lives. Heh.

We did absolutely nothing on Sunday, but watched a western movie series:) Aubrey is 12 years old, she's our youngest grandchild. We have four great grandchildren, who are younger. This was her competition this past weekend, I'm very proud of her:)

I don't think you need an injury to feel that way. There are times when I don't want to do anything, and don't. I turn on the TV and veg out. I'm glad you worked on your book. I hope the lessons went well at Guitar Center. Enjoy the pool. Yes, I had a productive day. I worked on one of my books too. Are you going to make me use a dictionary for your topics?

Nopee. I am pretty good at explaining things. Anhedonia is just not enjoying the things you used to enjoy. It goes along with lowered response initiation. If I ever didn't get pleasure from playing guitar, I'd know it was time to visit a "shrink."

@kareng I am sure many have described it and not used the "fancy psych term."

"Ain't no thing." Just means not enjoying things you usually enjoy.

I'm happy that you were able to overcome it and continue writing. I often find myself unable to do anything, even though my brain is working and I get excited about something. In the end, procrastination often wins.

@TheHorse I guess that's fine as long as you get to the pool before your day ends.

I was going to go to the pool before work today. But I decided to wait until after work.

Oh Yes I have many times. Hell over the course of George's recovery I couldn't bring myself to do almost anything. It was a real pain in the rear. I've had to force myself a lot of the time.

Heh. I call that "being practical." But I am home from Guitar Center and hope to head to the pool after I ice my knee.

I am frequently depressed and unproductive. I list what I accomplish on here so I know I am not as bad as I feel. Enjoy a big splash in the pool. I am searching my office for more computer paper so that I will not go out to Dollar General today. I hope the pool was wonderful.

I have gone through depressed days, here and there over the course of my life, but not for any longer periods of time. I hope that you pull yourself out of the doldrums. I had a pretty productive day today, it was very busy at work.

I had a trauma in 2009 which caused an imbalance in my brain chemistry. To this day I must be on meds to control my "depression". It wasn't depression as one thinks about it. The thought, smell and taste of food was horrible to me; and I couldn't do anything constructive. What I have never been able to understand is why, after the trauma is over with, why my brain didn't go back to normal. Can you explain that to me? Have a good day.
