A wonderful time with a good friend!

What some people call ''girl time'' has become hard for me to do most of the time. I love caring for my son, but I do miss seeing my good friends sometimes. Tonight, one of my son's friends took him to play video games for a while, and I had my girl time with my friend Tammy. This woman has been kicked down over and over and always, always gets back up. She was in a terrible wreck some time ago, and is still in the process of having surgeries, recovering and then having another. They have pretty much rebuilt one of her legs, and she has had 2 separate spinal fusions, among other things. But she never complains...she just digs in and keeps on. She always plants and cares for a garden and for her chickens, I don't have any idea how she manages it all. She has one more surgery coming up in September, we all hope this is the last one. She asked this morning if she could come by after getting her meds picked up, and of course, I said yes. Son gone with his friend, a great time for girl time. She brought me tons of goodies! Huge fresh garden tomatoes, a big sack of fresh picked green beans, cukes, and huge green peppers. Two big boxes! I can guarantee that stuffed peppers will be on the menu either tomorrow evening or Saturday. None of it will go to waste! I made us fresh BLT's with her tomatoes, homemade mac and cheese, and since it's Tammy and she is completely addicted to homemade brownies, I made her a big pan to take home with her. Plus, I sent home the rest of the mac and cheese as well (this is another favorite of hers.) Time with friends can be so refreshing and fun. We had the best visit!

Friend time ! She sounds like a trooper - my goodness to be able to manage an amazing garden through her injuries. I love the "home" stuff - her garden gifts and your wonderful cooking/baking - my friends aren't into that but I am! Oh I'm glad you enjoyed the visit . . . hope your son had a great time too!!

@MarieCoyle I'm assuming she also has a great will to keep on going no matter what. I do think folks with that kind of mindset actually heal faster from injuries. She is quite fortunate! And what a lovely friendship you ladies have ! It's more than mutual give and take . . . you really, really enjoy each other's company .

I don't know how she does it. Her leg was nearly crushed in that accident. I have seen her work in her garden, chase chickens, work on her truck(Tammy can do anything!) and do all of that with a medical boot on her leg, and bandages underneath. And she has a heart like...well, it's beyond huge. She thinks of everyone and is always helping someone. Tammy may have come to be my friend through bartering, but now, she is just a friend forever. We still do the back and forth...but we don't keep tabs on it. She loves to come to dinner, and is a huge fan of stuffed peppers, meat loaf, and chili--so if I make chili, I always put a big container for her in the freezer for her next visit, to take home. And she is always bringing me something. We have so much fun just sitting talking to each other. Oh, and she loves coffee as much as I do!

@much2say She always wanted to have children, and she couldn't. She loves my kids when she gets the chance to see them. For her sake, I do wish her health was better, but she surely never gives up--she has to rest sometimes, then there she is, up and going again. She does so much for others, without ever being asked. The world needs more Tammy's!

Old friends are the best, and time shared together is so special. You're very lucky that she showered you with the produce from her garden, that was so sweet of her.

We always try to share with each other when we have extra. It's the little things...and the smiles they bring to us, that are important. Thank you.

We never run out of things to talk about together. She is a very positive person, and they are getting rather hard to find here at times.

Tammy has proven to be a wonderful friend to me. We met years ago when I was looking for someone who sold fresh eggs. She happened to deliver them when I was baking chocolate cookies. She immediately said, let’s barter, so we started bartering eggs for baked goods and she really doesn’t care what the baked goods are, although I try to make her anything chocolate as that is her favorite thing. And the friendship grew from there.
