I am sure that the Cambridge Fire Department firefighters are wondering how did a raccoon get its head stuck in an iron storm drain gate on Thursday August 1.
The firefighters with the help of the Cambridge Animal Control, Public Works and the Tech Services and Fire Prevention were able to remove the iron grate and remove the raccoon from the trap which is not known how long the raccoon was trapped.
A member of the public gave the rescue team members olive oil to lubricate the raccoon for extraction.
After the raccoon was rescued by the rescue team, the raccoon was released into the wildlife area nearby.

That is a good question how long the raccoon was stuck in the iron grate.

It was good that somebody came forwards with some oil, as the raccoon could have been harder to pull out otherwise, and might have been injured, as well.

That is very true since trying to remove an animal from a iron grate without the oil would have injured the raccoon.

What a cutie. I'm glad they were able to get it loose from the storm drain grate.
