Need to replace front entry door knob

Our front entry door has a knob with a Mul-T-Lock lock in it. We don't know where the keys are so if the button is pushed in from the inside you can't get into the house. Also, the knob does not turn easily anymore. We need to replace it. Maybe even with a handle instead of a knob. We went to a locksmith to get a new knob with a Mul-T-Lock lock. The guy said that Mul-T-Lock doesn't make those anymore. He also said there is no reason to have a knob with a lock at all as that lock doesn't offer any protection. He suggested that we just get a passage knob. Is that a good idea? I looked at the knobs and handles the locksmith is selling and didn't really see anything I'd want to get in the color we need. And while I don't remember the exact amount, if memory serves me right, he said the cost would be either $125 or $150 for a handle or knob. That seems a lot, especially if no lock in it. I went to Home Depot to see what they have. While their stuff is way cheaper I could not find anything I liked and in the color we need. Don't know what to do. Where else can I look for a knob or handle for a front entry door? Our main lock (also a Mul-T-Lock) is a gold finish. Don't remember if shiny or not.

They are very expensive indeed.

These are the sort of decisions I hate having to make. Buying a door knob should be super easy but time and again it isn't easy at all.

I'd try lowes if Home Depot doesn't have what you're looking for. And a deadbolt is going to offer the most protection. An extra lock and key won't do much. It's up to you.

We already have one deadbolt. No need for another one.

What about looking at a hardware store? I've seen doorknobs there.

Didn’t have much luck at Home Depot. Maybe will try Lowe’s. There is a hardware store next to my house but it’s small. Doubt they’d have much to choose from.

You could try online. I don't know what a passage knob is. We need something done for our front door as the knob is loose and cannot be tightened. Good luck. Have a great day.

Passage knob is a regular knob without a lock or a privacy button.
