Let’s see…throw a dart at a list of artists in music history to see what will balance out a Bee Gees song….oh, yeah, THIS!
Honestly, these are alphabetical, and the lists were done separately with no thought of what would happen if I listed one from each list a day. Definitely one of my favorites, because I could relate to it in a way. Today’s country gem.
Coat of Many Colors - Dolly Parton
Earlier on the rock list there was Janis Ian’s “At Seventeen.” I said then that there was a “companion song” of sorts. This is it. Another song about school taunting, this time about the clothes one wore and how they might not measure up by “chic fashion” standards but are, in reality, the most valuable clothes on earth. (The coat is on display at Dollywood, and I guarantee you that it’ll fetch a couple of million if it’s ever auctioned.)
Unlike the Ian song, this has a “happy ending,” as the narrator recognizes a lesson that some never do: “one is only poor only if they choose to be.”

Today’s rock song: “Edge of the Universe”
I couldn’t understand it, for I felt I was rich:

Probably the hardest song she ever wrote, because she did live this.
