Wheee! My first snow pea plant of the "Winter."

As many of you know, I have lots of succulents in my balcony garden. They can survive just about anything (drought, monsoons, etc.) in a temperate climate. But I also grow corn, sunflowers, and green beans in the Summer, and snow peas in the winter. A couple of of weeks ago, I was saddened to see my sunflowers dying off, so I planted some snow pea seeds. (I also did some illegal snow pea planting at Kaiser.) This morning I saw some cute little snow pea plants poking through in my balcony garden. I took a photo of the biggest one. Wheee! Maybe I'll have a good crop this Winter. Are you planting anything right now?

@rakski If I were a snow pea, I'd want lots of water. But I am not sure.

Thank you. I wonder if snow peas would grow inside in Ohio.

We are firmly out of planting season here. Right now, it's 48 ((9C)) and that's too cold for just about everything. I guess I could plant winter wheat but I'm not that motivated. Winter wheat is about $5.80/bushel right now and I need more incentive.

@TheHorse It was very cold. But the days are better, It's 73 right now ((23C)). Still too cold for planting, though.

Yay! I'm glad your snow peas are sprouting. All we have in our flower garden are weeds. Have a good day.

Can you get some immigrants to do some gardening for you?

@TheHorse They're busy eating cats and dogs. My husband's 2nd cousin said she would do some more weeding.

Wheee, congrats on your snow pea plants! How long do they take to produce a harvest? No, I'm not planting anything and I'm clueless about planting and seasons. I just read this is not the right season to plant peanuts and that's it.

Heh. I've never planted peanuts.

@TheHorse They seem to work like potatoes, probably needing lots of space for the roots to grow.

@somewitch Ah. My smallish balcony planters would not be friendly to them.

That is a good success!! No recent planting but we did bring a few plants some time back. We might do so after a few weeks or winters. Even though winters are not very hash but those are not very conducive for plant growth.

I would have to learn what to grow if I moved to India.

It always amazes me that something so tiny and fragile grows into a strong snow-pea-producing plant.

Me too. Dirt and water yield these things? With a little help from the sun?
